Tantalisingly close to their 50th anniversary, Hawkwind are enjoying an Indian summer, having received plaudits for their The Machine Stops <\/i>album, good notices for its follow-up, Into The Woods<\/i>, and with live appearances always seeming like proper events<\/i>.<\/p>\n
This is one of those shows, a recent return to a spiritual home, even though their last Roundhouse appearance was in 1977, with Mot\u00f6rhead supporting. Of course, go back further and you\u2019d find them at the Greasy Truckers Party, February \u201972, from where emerged the basic track that, overdubbed, produced their Silver Machine hit. Not always played, it\u2019s present at this show, with Mot\u00f6rhead\u2019s Phil Campbell guesting.<\/p>\n
Opening with an abbreviated acoustic set, and captured on a mid-position single camera for the accompanying DVD that\u2019s one for the dedicated really, it\u2019s a mix of neglected 70s numbers \u2013 You\u2019d Better Believe It, Brainbox Pollution \u2013 and a chunk of newer tracks, from the lively Synchronised Blue and the spiralling dark fantasy of Into The Woods, to the earnest but clunky Vegan Lunch.<\/p>\n
Perhaps the occasion deserved a set of catalogue big hitters, but you can\u2019t fault the current line-up, revitalised by new recruit Haz Wheaton\u2019s powerful bass. Anyway, they\u2019ve got so close to that milestone by going onward, not by looking back.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
