More than likely, the jagged edges of their dirty R&B were too unpalatable for mainstream consumption; less marketable than the Stones, not as musically accomplished as The Yardbirds, the Phil May and Dick Taylor-led rabble rousers seemingly relished their black sheep reputation. The wonders of hindsight, however, show them to be a vital and exciting proposition still worthy of investigation.<\/p>\n
The first disc here brings together a whopping 25 of their prime era cuts, from familiar grizzly rockers Don\u2019t Bring Me Down and Rosalyn (both covered by Bowie on 1973\u2019s Pin Ups<\/i>) to the psychedelic blues of Sittin\u2019 Alone, and the proto-concept album fare of SF Sorrow Is Born.
