We Dance Till Dawn

In a remote rural community, the villagers still venerate the old gods. Every winter solstice the unwedded men and women compete to become the Summer Sacrifice, the offering to guarantee the arrival of spring.

At dawn the Chosen is taken away to be ritually cleansed. At dusk the Summer Sacrifice is sent to the gods, burnt alive in a wicker effigy to dance forever in the Summer Lands. Not all agree with tradition, some believe in science and rationality, and will compete to be the first Sacrifice to break the cycle of bloodshed.
