LORE (Layer Of Raid Engine) is a software RAID driver for Linux like MD. LORE delivers better performance than MD in various worklaods.
Features
- A RAID-5 array can be recovered from two disk failures if the fault disks have bad sectors but are functional.
- It is very easy to add new RAID architecture into LORE (well-layered). You need to just produce a read-xor-write matrix for a new RAID level.
- FAST PARITYLORE has an internal RAID cache : It aggregates many I/Os thus gives more efficent stripe writes. In many cases, LORE outperforms MD.RESYNCHRONIZATION (intent log): Software RAID suffers from a long scan process that taks several hours after a crash or an unclean shutdown. However, LORE can finish this process within several minutes without any data loss.
