The Exploration Bot is a machine used in Splatoon Raiders that is piloted by a Bot Buddy, which can either be Shiver, Frye or Big Man from Deep Cut. The mechanic may choose which Bot Buddy will accompany them during exploration of the Spirhalite Islands via the equip menu.

Release history

The Exploration Bot was initially revealed during Splatoon Raiders' reveal trailer without a name nor apparent pilots. Brief footage was shown of the bot accompanying and assisting the mechanic in exploration.

Splatoon Raiders' official website revealed the bot's name, while the release date trailer showcased its functionality and that Deep Cut may pilot it as Bot Buddies.

Description

Big Man inside the bot, as seen in the release date trailer.

The Exploration Bot is a dilapidated four-legged vehicle with a metallic turquoise body, resembling a submarine or the Crab Tank special weapon. It is steered by a member of Deep Cut chosen by the player, referred to as a Bot Buddy. The respective Bot Buddy can be seen inside the bot during gameplay.

Footage of a cutscene in Splatoon Raiders' release date trailer shows the Exploration Bot in a seemingly abandoned state before Deep Cut is shown piloting it, suggesting they found it on the Spirhalite Islands then restored it. Later on, Big Man can be seen tending to the bot upon the Hideout Ship. After he enters the bot, a large crane is used to pick up and throw the bot to transport him.

Usage

The Bot Buddy stays in proximity to the mechanic and assists them, similarly to Smallfry in Return of the Mammalians and the Pearl Drone in Side Order. Signals can be used to command the Bot Buddy.

The Exploration Bot can shoot ink, move toward the player, launch the player into the air when they jump onto it, drill into the ground, and search and locate treasure.[1][2] The Bot Buddy can also get out of the Exploration Bot to use a Showstopper attack.[3]

Splatoon Raiders' release date trailer showcases footage of the Exploration Bot being used to mine an ore node containing Spirhalite Shards and treasure.

Outside of levels, the bot stays on the Hideout Ship. When a player presses A on The Exploration Bot, the parts of the Spiralite Islands that have been discovered are shown on a map. The map is used for level selection.

Quotes

One member of Deep Cut will accompany you on raids by riding in the Bot. Not only will they shoot ink at foes, but they'll also provide support by launching you into the air or drilling into the ground.

Either Frye, Shiver or Big Man will accompany you on your raids in the Exploration Bot, shooting ink, providing a jump-off point, drilling for goodies, and – when needed – unleashing their unique Showstopper attacks.
