Crazy inception like story, made me say wtf but in all the good ways.

The gameplay makes you feel like you have total control as a almost godlike entity in charge of her world. You fly, control objects via telekinesis, mind control enemies, and have a shifting weapon with different gunplay usages.

Storyrich, with expanding DLC's that dive deeper into the lore that isn't explained in the main game, and another DLC that links some universes together (no spoilers).

With a sequel coming soon, it's a good time to immerse yourself into this game.

I enjoyed it, but it becomes repetitive after a while.

Control is a weird case for me. I really tried to enjoy it, but from my experience it felt as if it was a piece that consists of some really cool concepts, ideas and visuals that end up coming out kind of not as good as they could really be.

The game has a really cool premise being exploring a vast and ever changing paranormal bureau full of different objects that behave in all sorts of ways. Now this sets up something that could explore a ton of cool ideas but in the end falls flat on its face. All the various cool reality bending objects mostly end up being described on documents (of which there are like an actual obscene amount, like i love worldbuilding and exposition as much as the next guy but after literally 80th report i find on the ground i just cant read this). The enemy design also doesnt take much stars from the sky because because a lot of it is "What if an armed guard was red and evil" and "what if a flying guy exploded". I should say that there were in fact side missions where you interact with something paranormal and it made me go "Wow, that was actually really cool", but i can count these on my hand and this leads me to the point that the game handles this too safe and conventional. The vast and ever changing bureau i mentioned also follows this design philosphy, where there are actually cool and abandoned areas within because they got outrun by the anomalies, but most of the game it presents itself in brutalist architecture blocking passageways with jagged corners.

Before discussing gameplay id say the general feel of the game (Visuals, moving ect) is a really strong foundation for it. The game looks great and works great and movement feels so fluid its like you're playing a spider man game (in a good sense). The game's engine also has just about every object affected by physics which creates some really cool visual feel during combat.

Now the actual gameplay. I want to say its actually pretty good but it still has some gripes with me. Your only weapon in the game is the Service Weapon - a sort of paranormal revolver that you shoot various critters with. Now it comes in different variations that transform it into say a shotgun or a bomb launcher. I would find this really enjoyable if the game didnt balance these weapons around mods that randomly drop off enemies. And they're all very non transformative stuff like 30 percent bigger magazine or 10 percent more explosion radius so it really curbs the enjoyment from using your gun. You also get a set of abilities, which i think is a highlight of the game. They arent exactly super special and innovative but all of them fill a role in combat and you would want to use them all to be effective. Frankly most of the time throwing rocks at people is actually more effective than shooting them. The only problem you have to think about is the stamina bar.

The story im not gonna spoil but will comment on still. Something that really bugged me while playing is how the game doesnt have any real "scenes" to speak of. Everything happens sort of seamless and conversations between characters are always camera panning back and forth to whoever is speaking. It all just feels like the game is not trying to catch your attention really. The game also sort of ends very abruptly ? It genuiely felt to me like about 15 minutes of plot are missing from the end of the game.

So, i ended up not being a huge fan of the game, but i do get it has qualities a lot of people do love it for. I would say it may be worth to try it on a sale if its really your thing or not. If you're a completionist the achievements are also pretty easy to sink your teeth into.
