Although the promise of 5 different gameplay styles might not quite live up to what you actually experience, Shuten Order is unquestionably a fantastic mystery visual novel. It throws new information AND twists in equal measure, causing you to both feel like you're progressing either your current subplot or the overall narrative at all times, and also losing grip on what's the truth and what's a lie. On top of that, this is one of the most visually exciting games in this genre, with tons of CGs, different visuals for every route, mixing 2D and 3D, etc. It somehow toes the line between feeling thrown together and being extremely well executed. If you're at all interested, do give this a try.

I can't remember the last time I played a platformer where I wanted to see what would happen next.
Sure, the combat has surprising depth and variety with the different skills on offer, the bosses offer a great dynamic since they all move around like you while throwing out many bullet-hell attacks, and the exploration is very open and rewarding; the game even gives you, as your first objective, to "Play Freely!"
But what stuck with me the most is how interesting the story was. You really don't expect this level of writing in this genre, where the story is usually just a way to get the player from point A to point B, or to justify your journey. I was very quickly hooked by the premise, and every new plot point was exciting and made me want to play more. If you're into indies with a strong story and some difficulty, I heavily recommend checking this one out.

It was pretty enjoyable! Lots of issues with connectivity and online desyncs, and controlling the whale in the wind is a nightmare, and the balance needs some work still and whatnot but I'm sure with a few patches it'll be a pretty great time with friends.

Although the anime style may want to make you turn away, there's merit in looking past that. This game is excellent in both the metroidvania AND bullet-hell genres, and honestly has an insane amount of replayability. Plenty of items to collect, movement is varied and you always feel very in control, there's a lot of bosses and they all feel surprisingly unique, the challenge level can go incredibly high if you want it to... for me, it's honestly nearly a perfect game: even the flaws it might have actually help make it more fun. I can't recommend this enough.
