Slipping through the Cracks
A downloadable scenario
Welcome home.
A safe home is a rare jewel in the Lowland Wastes. Living underground may offer refuge from the blizzards, but how long can that safety last? Winter’s grasp creeps in through the cracks, ambitious Lordlings descend from above, and inconceivable threats rise from below…
What will we do when we are caught in the middle, with no way out?
What awaits below…
Slipping through the Cracks is an extra-fungal-Winter-horror adventure module, settlement, and grimoire for the Cloud Empress roleplaying game by Worlds by Watt.
*Recently updated to V2 with tons of new content!*
This book provides an open-ended scenario for 1 to 3 sessions of play. As well as...
- One subterranean settlement, brimming with fungal life, secret technology, and strange and horrific events...
- 7 characters and 1 extra-dimensional fungus, with personality, goals, and motivations, creating an environment for plot hooks and conflict.
- Play as a Gardener to can bring life to the Lowland Wastes!
- A variety of new creatures, spores, spells, crests, and gear.
Modular Inspiration
Though this module was designed for Cloud Empress (based on Mothership) it can be easily adapted to most post-apocalyptic sci-fi / fantasy settings.
Whether you need characters, conflicts, weird science/magic stuff, or a cool place for your characters to have adventures, this book has something for you!
Thank you!
This has been a labor of love for the Cloud Empress Winter Jam.
Special thanks to Amanda Lee Franck, Chaoclypse, Jeff Preston, Felipe da Silva Faria, and Adlerdoodles for providing amazing art for indie creators to use for free. Without them, this book would look nowhere near as good!
And a special thanks to Watt for providing the templates for this book, and for creating the game that inspired it!

This module is 100% human made. (Trust me, it took like 120+ hours.) Absolutely no generative AI was used in the making of this book. Supporting this work means you are supporting a real human with real dreams, passions, and bills.

I've added 29 community copies to celebrate the V2 release! Have fun!
I've never played Cloud Empress and only started to read the rulebook after getting this module. I like mycology and love the concept of geothermal settlement to the extent I'm building a geothermal greenhouse IRL. It's a compelling story on its own with likeable characters and plenty of conflicting interests. Not just between characters but between their own needs and motivations. The reason the world works is also why it's mysterious and threatening. I admit I haven't read too far into the timeline and possible solutions pages to not spoil them in the future.
Some of the tables do require the core rulebook to know their values, which I will post here under Fair Use. This expansion references them as being on "page 34" but I found it on page 40 (in the Table of Contents either way). The rulebook is now free but if anyone happens to only be playing Slipping Through the Cracks like me, this could be helpful:

Oh wow, thank you for your feedback and for letting me know! Cloud Empress has actually had a major revision to the core rulebook since Slipping Through the Cracks has been released, and I didn't realize that shifted the page number for spores. I'll have to update STTC with that info in the near future!
Summer is almost here! In honor of the 29th expedition, I’ve added 29 Community Copies. Enjoy!
