The Otome Game Bible
A downloadable book
About the Book
While there are plenty of resources on general game development and writing romance for webcomics, practical guides specifically focused on otome games are incredibly hard to find, especially ones grounded in real industry experience.
I wrote this book for current and aspiring otome game developers, as well as game and narrative designers seeking industry-specific insights.
The “Otome Bible” is here to save your soul (and your project) before you descend into game dev hell. Written by a veteran planner and writer with over a decade of industry experience, this guide walks readers through the many challenges developers face, from pre-release stages such as ideation and game design to post-release concerns, including fandom engagement and monetization strategies. One aspect I especially appreciated is how the author frames these challenges as questions to the reader and then answers them through the lens of personal experience, including the failures.
What’s more, this guide isn’t just for game designers. Artists, writers, programmers, and people in other relevant roles will all find value in its various sections. As such, whether you’re a solo indie developer or part of a growing team, you’ll find a wealth of valuable insights on how to turn a passion project into a polished, compelling game!

This book delivers on its subtitle— it really is a comprehensive, practical guide to designing, creating, launching, and marketing an Otome Game. As a romance narrative game writer myself, this condenses years of experience into an easy-to-digest format with specific examples, ranging from story + character concepting, narrative system + mechanic design, considering how to design for different monetization goals, how to write effectively for the visual novel form, art direction and how to punch visually, and how to promote your game. It’s both an invaluable primer for newbies, and great as an organized reminder/reference for experts.

About the Creator
Hi, I'm Summer(여름). I’m a game and narrative designer who has led the successful launch of over 10 choice-based romance games of various scales at a Korean otome game studio.
My breakout title, Marked by King Bs (일진에게 찍혔을 때), reached 3 million downloads in Korea and successfully launched in Japan, China, North America, and more. I've also worked on multiple titles that achieved between 500,000 and 1 million downloads on both Google Play and the App Store.
Through these projects, I've developed my own "practical framework for otome game development", a formula refined through years of real-world experience and direct player feedback.
Today, I'm expanding my reach beyond games into webcomics and web novels, creating romantic content that resonates with fans across multiple platforms.
