Friday Night Funkin', who doesn't know it at this point. The game MASSIVELY blew up when it was first released, with the songs being remember and the mods even more and it becoming the single most viewed thing in NewGrounds history. Hell, if I recall, it was so popular that one of the songs was in the top 100, unless I am misremembering something. But, over the past couple of months it's been coming back with three things I want to talk about, being the Weekend Update and the mods Hit Single and Funkadelix.
The Weekend update was the first update since the Tankman/Week 7 update, expanding the lore, cast and music score. The week is you as Pico versus the two other main Pico's School characters, Darnell and Nene with 4 new songs, being Darnell, Lit Up, 2Hot and Blazin'. Alongside these was the Erect remixes (WHICH I STILL HAVEN'T PLAYED BECAUSE I FORGOT LIKE A DUMBASS!) which are extra remixes on songs that already exist... which I feel like I didn't need to explain but I did anyway. I personally enjoyed the new week and I'm interested in what the other Weekends can show, and I wonder if it's just to expand on an already existing week.
Hit Single is a mod that has existed for a while now, but a single update brought it into the light and that's the update that added the song Silly Billy, the song where you fight versus Yourself, alongside other songs and an interesting side game. The song BLEW THE FUCK UP, with over 12 million views at the time of writing with the main thing being the sudden incredible vocal performance that pops up near the end of the song. Many videos featuring this song or even just the lyrical part have gained millions of views, bringing it into popularity. But one other thing was added being called Garn47, a weird 3D game where you can find extra songs and other characters, with the most popular being the silly cat named Car... who has a twitter account. I really enjoyed the mods and I actually came in blind to the main song and I thought the songs were really excellent, even aside from Silly Billy.
Funkadelix is a mod with a very, very simple premise, "What if all of the songs were actually rap songs." And well, I thought it was executed pretty damn well. It's very short, only composing of a couple of the games songs but what is shown is quite good and I really enjoyed it. I definitely have the least to talk about here, but well, that's not a bad thing.
I just thought it was interesting seeing FNF come back to the limelight, especially with the negative stigma it gained after it blew up... because everything gets a negative stigma when it blows up because popular = bad... and also because of preference and some shoddy coding in the original base game. I just wanted to highlight what I thought was the three big things that brought FNF back into the spotlight again. Next news is the mystery game, which I'm gonna do two parts for it: one part is the original version of the game, and the second is the stuff added from the re-release.
