Modern Data Analytics in Excel

What Is “Modern Analytics”? Why Excel?

Modern analytics refers to the use of advanced tools and techniques to prepare and analyze data, ranging from simple retrospective analyses to predictive modeling and artificial intelligence. In the evolving landscape of data-driven decision making, it’s essential to have tools that are versatile and interoperable, enabling users to perform a wide range of analytics activities.

Previously, Excel fell short in meeting these requirements. However, Excel has undergone significant transformation over the past decade, making it a true powerhouse for modern data analytics.

This book aims to dispel common misconceptions held by technical professionals about Excel and to demonstrate its capabilities in the modern analytics realm. By showcasing features such as Power Pivot, Power Query, and other tools, this book challenges the belief that Excel is limited to basic formulas and functions. It emphasizes that today’s Excel has evolved into a robust platform capable of handling complex data analytics tasks.

Ultimately, this book showcases Excel as a powerful and versatile tool for modern analytics. It seeks to debunk myths, guiding technical professionals and managers to fully exploit Excel’s potential for effective data analysis and decision making. In doing so, it enables users to harness Excel as a crucial component of the contemporary analytics toolkit, providing insights and driving success in our data-driven world.

    Fantastic Book

The author gives an outstanding overview of using modern Excel for analytics. At just over 200 pages (the print edition), the book cannot go into depth on all topics. It gives a broad overview and gets fairly detailed on Power Query and Power Pivot. Given the limited space, on numerous occasions, the author recommends subject specific books for additional details.

The author has a wonderful writing style that makes the book an easy read. That is not an easy accomplishment for a technical book. While the book has some great technical information, the strength of the book is the authors ability in explaining an approach to using the tools together in a cohesive strategy. Few if any technical books succeed on this level. I think highly enough of this book that I just order the author's previous book.

Modern Data Analytics in Excel is the book I wish I had when I was starting out: with Excel and as a Data Analyst. It is so clear, easy to follow, and very interesting. I'm so glad George wrote it.

For several years I often struggled because I didn't know about Power Query & Power Pivot. But you don't have to. Modern Data Analytics in Excel will get you up and running in no time with these 2 extremely powerful tools. Very much worth the price.

Excel has changed a lot over the past 10 years, particularly for data analysis. For long-time Excel users like me, trying to learn how to use Power Query and Power Pivot is a bit of an uphill battle, especially since we're already comfortable analyzing data through functions (e.g., SUMIFS, AGGREGATE, etc.) and standard Pivot Tables.

I've been following the author on LinkedIn for sometime and had been looking forward to this book and it's exactly what I have been looking for. It comes with example files you can download and takes you through Power Query and Power Pivot so you can learn by doing. Highly recommended!

The book is average black and white, regular paper- makes it difficult to read diagrams and excel snapshots. And for the price the book does not go into that level of details
