What Is “Modern Analytics”? Why Excel?
Modern analytics refers to the use of advanced tools and techniques to prepare and analyze data, ranging from simple retrospective analyses to predictive modeling and artificial intelligence. In the evolving landscape of data-driven decision making, it’s essential to have tools that are versatile and interoperable, enabling users to perform a wide range of analytics activities.
Previously, Excel fell short in meeting these requirements. However, Excel has undergone significant transformation over the past decade, making it a true powerhouse for modern data analytics.
This book aims to dispel common misconceptions held by technical professionals about Excel and to demonstrate its capabilities in the modern analytics realm. The book covers an impressive array of techniques for cleaning and analyzing data, all within a remarkably concise format. I found the insights into Power Query and Power Pivot especially enlightening, but it was the author's ability to weave these concepts together into a clear and accessible narrative that truly stood out. "I highly recommend Modern Data Analytics in Excel! In this book, Excel MVP George Mount takes us on a comprehensive journey through Microsoft Excel, showing how versatile it can be for data analytics. Starting with the basics and moving to more complex features like Power Query and Power Pivot, George does an excellent job breaking down advanced concepts into understandable pieces. What stands out is the practical approach used, with work files, exercises, and resource links that let you practice and explore as you learn. As someone reviewing this book from an accountant's perspective, I believe that its clarity and practicality make it a valuable reference resource for professionals who live in this world. Accountants, who often deal with complex datasets and require accurate analysis, will appreciate the review of fundamental to advanced analytics techniques.
The advanced topics explore how Excel is evolving to incorporate more advanced analytics, including the possibilities available through AI and Python integration. These topics can seem overwhelming, but George makes them less daunting and approachable. This foresight into Excel's role in future data analysis is helpful, suggesting ways professionals can stay ahead in their field. Looking to build (or enhance) your Excel data analytics skills? Pick up this book!"

Fantastic Book
Reviewed in the United States on July 9, 2024The author gives an outstanding overview of using modern Excel for analytics. At just over 200 pages (the print edition), the book cannot go into depth on all topics. It gives a broad overview and gets fairly detailed on Power Query and Power Pivot. Given the limited space, on numerous occasions, the author recommends subject specific books for additional details.
The author has a wonderful writing style that makes the book an easy read. That is not an easy accomplishment for a technical book. While the book has some great technical information, the strength of the book is the authors ability in explaining an approach to using the tools together in a cohesive strategy. Few if any technical books succeed on this level. I think highly enough of this book that I just order the author's previous book.

For several years I often struggled because I didn't know about Power Query & Power Pivot. But you don't have to. Modern Data Analytics in Excel will get you up and running in no time with these 2 extremely powerful tools. Very much worth the price.

A hands-on way to learn for experienced Excel users
Reviewed in the United States on June 1, 2024Excel has changed a lot over the past 10 years, particularly for data analysis. For long-time Excel users like me, trying to learn how to use Power Query and Power Pivot is a bit of an uphill battle, especially since we're already comfortable analyzing data through functions (e.g., SUMIFS, AGGREGATE, etc.) and standard Pivot Tables.
I've been following the author on LinkedIn for sometime and had been looking forward to this book and it's exactly what I have been looking for. It comes with example files you can download and takes you through Power Query and Power Pivot so you can learn by doing. Highly recommended!

Not worth the price, sorry
Reviewed in the United States on August 15, 2024The book is average black and white, regular paper- makes it difficult to read diagrams and excel snapshots. And for the price the book does not go into that level of details

DK_851 out of 5 starsSchwaches Buch
