Review
“I teach data-driven storytelling and communication to undergraduate, Ph.D. students, MBAs, and executives. Across all of these, storytelling with data is my core textbook and in every class, students want more from Cole―particularly in the form of hands-on remakes. I'm thrilled that I can now add Let's Practice! to my courses. Packed with examples and practical strategies, this is a must-have resource for anyone who needs to convey data, or to teach this critical professional skill to others.”
―Steven Franconeri, Professor of Psychology, Director of the Cognitive Science Program and the Visual Thinking Lab at Northwestern University
“This book is stellar. Do not be fooled and think it is merely a set of practice exercises that augment the first book. Let’s Practice! offers a treasure chest full of insights on change management, collaboration, leadership engagement, feedback, iteration, and how to think critically about what is important to the organization and its stakeholders. Cole offers clear, explicit instructions on how to define your audience, determine their needs, and craft narratives that engage and enlighten.”
―Steve Wexler, author of The Big Book of Dashboards

A Data Storytelling MUST HAVE for your data visualization library!
Top reviews from the United States

Trusted source for visualizations and story telling
Reviewed in the United States on April 22, 2026I read the first book when I was a graduate student in business analytics. Now I have done several analytics dashboards and decided to read her new book. Cole still revisits the advice from the first book and then goes beyond, especially in story telling. Much of my current interests are addressed in this new book, which is filled with examples to try along with Cole.

BEST book for learning the hows and whys of data visualization
Reviewed in the United States on November 5, 2019I *love* Storytelling With Data (the original book), and was so excited to see Let's Practice come out. I lead a team of survey researchers and data analysts, and I always recommend this book - and now this duo! In fact, they're both sitting prominently on my office shelf. This books gives very concrete examples of what visuals to use for which kinds of data, and walks readers through the hows and whys of data viz decision making. Definitely an invaluable resource to anyone using data in business.

Great book!!
Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2019Given how much I loved the first book, I had high expectations for the second one. Cole somehow still exceeded them. Her writing style is accessible and straightforward yet always very informative. Are you debating between buying the first or second book? I recommend purchasing both as I learned so much from each. I still refer back to the first book and will add this second one to my desk. This latest one includes more tips, examples, and thoughtful questions to help take your learning to the next level.

If you want to create graphs that make sense to other people, this book is a must-have!
Reviewed in the United States on October 23, 2019I'm a huge fan of the original book and was really happy to see that Cole has done it again! This book is straightforward and packed with applicable examples that are real world. I love the three sections of examples - where she provides her direction & solution, additional ones for you to practice and ones to do at your desk in the workplace. Whether you are a seasoned professional at creating graphs or someone who's being asked for the first time to create a chart, you will learn something from this book.

Charles Saulnier5 out of 5 starsA must for any professional who wants to communicate effectively with data
Reviewed in Canada on October 29, 2019Disclaimer: I have not yet read the entirety of this book yet. Why? Because unlike many other books on communication and data visualization, you should not just read this book: you have to use it as you would a school handbook! I could spend a whole semester working through the numerous exercises presented here (which I intend to do).
While Storytelling with data, Cole's first book, covered the theoretical side of communicating with data in an accessible way for beginning and seasoned professionals, this book invites you to put it all together and practice. Even better, it invites you to use it as both on your own and in groups, giving you a great excuse to spread the word on what goes on throughout the design process. It is a wonderful support to make your colleagues and bosses understand how much work goes into graphs and data visualization.
I definitely recommend it to anyone working with data! If you need an excuse to step out of your comfort zone at work, do yourself a favor and get your hands on this book.

Animatum Est3 out of 5 starsSesga a comprar la edición previa para comprender a fondo
