Organizations Involved

WaterHealth International is a leading non-profit organization in the US offering immediately deployable strategies for processing healthy drinking water in underserved communities. To accomplish their mission, WaterHealth Centers are used to deliver scalable and sustainable solutions for purifying any source of water to align with quality drinking water standards set by the World Health Organization.

The organization’s website serves as a direct window to the water sustainability work that they undertake for the communities. Over a period of time, the process of manually updating the website became tedious. As a result, WaterHealth International decided to migrate their website to a CMS platform for increased ease of use and a simpler way to update the site.

WaterHealth International also required the ability to upload press releases, media coverage, articles, photo galleries, video galleries, case studies, and many other resources for the community they serve without a need for technical assistance. Finally, WaterHealth wanted to develop an embedded water counter for the website, displaying the amount of water filtered by the organization in accordance to day and year.

About the project

Goals
A closer look at the project revealed that the website required both migration and restructuring of content. Keeping these points in mind, Icreon Tech Inc. selected Drupal (due to its modular and extendable architecture) to create a customized CMS platform for WaterHealth that is interactive, easy to use and provides an inclusive user experience for all its stakeholders.

Requirements
• Develop a robust, secure and flexible CMS application for WaterHealth Staff.
• Allow users to manage content through the backend without any technical expertise.
• Integrate a design theme in Drupal which reflects their business.
• Provide the ability to upload case studies, articles, resource information, photos, videos, stories, and WaterHealth Center information through the backend.
• Provide ability to manage block components at individual pages.
• Provide ability to search site content.
• Develop a water counter to calculate water usage.

Outcome
The result was a fresh and modern web design that allowed website users to access a vast repository of content quickly and easily. Through the website, the staff of WaterHealth International can easily administer, mobilize and publish huge amounts of data, such as:

• Integration of the photo and video gallery
• Extensive search features to allow users to search through the website using keywords
• Create, update and manage website content
• Manage press releases
• Manage the photo gallery
• Manage the video gallery
• Upload case studies
• Upload articles and stories

In addition, we provided the administrators of the website with means to set user roles and permissions to ensure improved workflow for content authors and timely updating of information.

Why Drupal was chosen

This project was developed in Drupal 6.x. Drupal was chosen for its flexibility, security, modularity, stability and the rich library of contributed modules. Being free, scalable and extendable, Drupal was the CMS of choice for the WaterHealth solution. With a wide variety of contributed modules, we were able to build a system that could meet the current site requirements and leave room to easily add new functionalities in the future. Drupal has a thriving community for support, as well as a proven security track record which greatly enhanced the mechanisms of the WaterHealth solution.

WaterHealth International offers an immediately deployable strategy for processing healthy drinking water in underserved communities.

Technical Specifications

Why these modules/theme/distribution were chosen

All these modules were chosen as they specifically meet this project’s requirement. Boost is the ideal module for static page caching, and Web form is a great module to create custom forms in Drupal. Finally, the Lightbox2 module helped us to implement this site in lightbox without any issues.
