Gazans prepare for Ramadan amid rubble and destruction

Some two million people in Gaza are preparing to observe the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. Two years of war have left the territory in ruins, but many Gazans are preparing for the holy season as best they can.

Amid Gaza’s devastation, local artists craft handmade Ramadan decorations from rubble and recycled cans to bring moments of joy to their community. Mosques have been destroyed and the lasting impact of war is everywhere, but residents like Hani Dahman and Mohannad al-Najjar try to lift spirits, offering children and families hope as Ramadan begins.
