She was the evil he was built to destroy. A weapon forged in shadow and ruin. Their meeting was inevitable—a force not even the Gods could contain.

Saviour.
You were a story, a beacon of hope where only darkness existed. A man who only left his castle to kill the evil that threatens our broken world —evil like me, a Nightwalker.
I'd always known we were inevitable, that only one of us would survive. But you enslave me, instead. Bound me to your will. Forced me to protect what you love.
Foolish, Saviour. In a world where survival is betrayal and love is a weakness, you should have known—I'm an evil you weren't ready for.
And when I escape—Your kingdom will burn.
Nightmare.
Your existence defies nature, your golden eyes command terror, and your hands are stained with the blood of Kings. You were supposed to die when we clashed. It was inevitable.
But the shadows are thick, Nightmare and your enemies are gathering. They want to see you fall. They want to see you bleed. They want to see you dead.
But not before I'm done with you.

3.5⭐️

A dark romantasy with a morally black FMC and a morally grey MMC. In the beginning there is a lot of world building. And the story is a bit all over the place. I still don't fully understand what happened when the world was ending. I was a bit lost and couldn't get emotional connected with the characters. But something kept me reading further.

I loved the fact that the FMC is morally black. She is such a badass. And sometime around 50% when you get a glimpse in the past the emotional connection with Haze (FMC) and Riot (MMC) started. There are a lot of layers you have to peel away as a reader.

The ending made me sob like a little girl and I was totally invested. So I will continue this series because I love the story of the main couple, but hoping for a better flow in the story and also want to be more connected with the side characters.

The story is dark a lot of violence, trauma, abuse, fighting, mental manipulation so check your trigger warnings.

I had the pleasure of reading the ARC of this book even if it was already released.

This debut dark fantasy was entertaining, had you hooked from the start, and if you, like me, support women's right and women's wrongs. This book is for you.
Our FMC is the villain in this story and she's a badass. I loved her from page 1. Same goes for our hero. I am weak for the grumpy anti-hero vibe he had going on.

Now, what I would've loved even more was amping up the yearning between the characters. The book isn't romance-heavy which it doesn't have to be, but I would've enjoyed even more yearning to build up for the ending.

Four stars, I was thoroughly enjoying this book and can't wait for book 2

Let’s unpack all my thoughts .. and buckle up! Because It’s going to be a long ride. I’ll try my best to be as coherent and clear as possible (I’m fan-girling 😳 so hard while writing this!!)

First, it blows my mind that this is a debut novel. I can’t believe how perfectly crafted it is. The writing, the storytelling… every line just pulled me into the depths of this beautiful, dark 🖤 world.

The worldbuilding? Incredible. The dark fantasy vibes ✨delivered✨ in every way (without being overly dense). Just Perfection! 🤌🏻

Nightmare. I LOVE ❤️‍🔥 you. Everything I look for in a FMC? She has it. She’s powerful, unhinged, unapologetic, fierce and has that I-don’t-give-a-f*ck energy but still carries a vulnerability that made me fall completely for her.

Saviour. My poor, tormented soul. I’m obsessed. The pain, the emotional weight he carries… I know I can fix you! (but also, ruin me just a little??)😭🫶🏻

I was holding my breath with every chapter. It was so deliciously addictive that I found myself dreading the end… I just wasn’t ready to let these captivating, complex characters go. (I’ll miss every single one of them.)🥺🥲

And that ending?? I Gasped sooo loud. I was not expecting it. The whole book was amazing, but .. the final 20%? Absolutely ✨extraordinary✨in the most gut-wrenching, brilliant way.

Dark Virtue will live rent-free in my mind for a long time ❤️‍🔥. One of my favorite reads this year, no question!! And honestly? .. it’s now in my top 5 favorite fantasy reads.

Zee Ghani.. what a Dream. Thank you for giving us such a magical, emotional, and unique story. 🤧🖤
P.S. I need Book 2... yesterday! 💀✨

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 stars for Zee’s Dark Virtue!

Where do we start? .. well I’ll tell you, we are instantly plunged into a dystopian world. Filled with creatures, full of pain, sadness and defeat. A broken world that’s still trying to cling to humanity… or what’s left of it.

We are dropped into a floating castle with characters that captivate. This is a dark novel. It has some very triggering scenes, but they are written so well.

Zee had me routing for the villain. I don’t know what that says about me as a person, whether there’s something dark inside of myself, or if I’m a hopeless optimist who desperately wants to see the good in everyone. It’s definitely a thought provoking story.

There are scenes in this book that made me cry with how raw the emotions are on the pages. I won’t call it a romance, not just yet. But I was falling in love with the characters.

The twists and turns this book takes you on is like nothing I’ve read before. What a rollercoaster of emotions!

If you’re not worried about the triggering content, which I’ll add fully to my Goodreads, or message me and I’ll send you the list, I’d add this to your tbr so fast!

Trigger warnings as follows;
~ blood and gore

How can I even begin to describe just how AMAZING this story was? I've not read a dystopian fantasy since The Hunger Games so when Zee reached out to me and asked if I would read an advanced copy of her book, I'll admit I was a tad hesitant. I am SO GLAD I took the opportunity!

It immediately felt like a combination of Divergence meets Hunger Games meets X-Men. And I'm here for it!

I was immediately immersed in a universe where Earth suffered a great tearing, and the world was divided into districts. A land where magic and monsters should NOT exist, yet they do. We follow 3 main protagonists, all of whom I was immediately invested in.

What is the greater evil? Being wicked because you had no choice and it was forced upon you, or being wicked because you have nothing to lose?

That was the question that presented itself this entire read. Now, this is an EXTREMELY slow burn but the banter, the angst, the emotions of the characters were so thoroughly written, they were believable. I could see myself being friends with Haze, despite her adamantly arguing, and threatening, to end it at all costs.

That ENDING. I literally CRIED. And I couldn't even cry the way I wanted to because it was after midnight and my husband was sleeping. I immediately messaged Zee and said "what did you just do to me?!" I then proceeded to stare at the ceiling for an hour.

If you like dark dystopian worlds, slow burn angsty romances, action packed scenes, the internal war between good vs evil, then this is the book for you!

Zee, Well done. I eagerly look forward to the next book!

"I never needed the stars."
“Only my shadow.” 😩😭

Well fuck me. That ending absolutely WRECKED ME. Then put me back together 🥹

First thank you Zee for reaching out to me about your debut novel and allowing me to be an ARC reader. I am floored…bravo!!! I can’t wait to read everything else you write.

Now about our Saviour & Nightmare’s story🫶🏼

After what they call The Tearing happened, the world was split into districts. Humans now living in a world with supernatural beings and Gods. Each species holding a district of its own.
Nightmare is our FMC and she is so badass with a huge IDGAF attitude. She is evil through and through and will do whatever it takes to succeed in the things she wants. She is selfish to a fault, and when we find out her reasoning it is gut wrenching.
Saviour is our MMC and he rules the floating castle that protecting the lands from the outskirts. He protects those he cares for with a fierceness, but there is something interestingly mysterious about him. Dark even. He continues to reject any mate the Gods send him. Curious…

There’s so much I’d love to say but I just can’t! You have to go and pick this book up and find out for yourself 👀

🖤 Hero X Villain
🤍 Virgin MMC
🖤 Forced Proximity
🤍 Extreme Slow Burn
🖤 Found Family

Supernatural Darkness at it's best!

There's no spice but what this book brings in plot and character development is so friggin good - it doesn't need it!!

There's plenty of tension in the air and need but with Haze being so far beyond redemption, she is chaos personified and perfection! 😍 She is dark, calculated, smart and devious. At times she is so funny when she really shouldn't be but it works! She loves her mind games and knows her own strengths. She doesn't need nor want anyone to control her or help her...

She is a beautiful enigma who could make the whole world fall to her feet 🖤

Multiple POV but mainly Dual with Riot and Haze... Riot is a great MMC. He 'knows' there's something about her he can't let go of. But the truth may or may not suprise you to who she really is. If one truth doesn't, the other one will.

I can't even recommend this book enough... No words can do it justice!

Wow this was an ARC of two halves.
Being honest I did initially find it hard to follow with the story line jumping around and characters having more than one name, but the world building and description were fantastic and the story line absolutely developed in the second half.
The main FMC is fierce, she was the backbone of the story and I've never rooted more for a villains redemption.
The final chapters were climatic and heart wrenching and without giving spoilers I'm glad there's a book 2 on the way.
Thanks to @authorzeeghani for the arc review
P.s the dedication is everything

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 stars

Violent, gory, and delicious. This book does not hold back. From the first page, Dark Virtue drops you headfirst into a brutal, vivid world crawling with monsters, fractured gods, ancient nightmares—and a saviour who may not be what they seem.

Zee Ghani builds a richly layered post-apocalyptic world with lore so original it feels mythic. The writing is gorgeously intense, with descriptions that drip with atmosphere and scenes that hit like a blade to the gut. And the banter? Chef’s kiss. Witty, sharp, and perfectly timed, it balances the darkness with just enough light to keep you breathing.

I loved the shifting POVs—each one bringing fresh perspective and tension—and every time I thought I had the plot figured out, Ghani yanked the rug out from under me. This story twists like a knife. I was one step behind the entire time, and I loved it.

⚠️ Trigger warnings are clearly stated at the beginning (and they’re absolutely necessary—this one goes dark), so please read with care.

That ending? Let’s just say I was clinging to my Kindle in the dark, eyes wide, heart racing.

Perfect for fans of vicious worlds, morally complex characters, and stories that make you bleed a little in the best way.

Thank you for the review copy I'm honoured!

Oh my goodness this debut novel is just amazing! I knew this was dark fantasy but it was even darker than I was expecting and there were a LOT of trigger warnings!

Set in a dystopian Earth where the world has ended by the 'Tearing' creatures are just trying to survive.
The FMC Haze is such an unapologetic villain that I just loved her from the start. It's not even morally grey she's just pure evil and ripping out people's hearts, literally.

The world contains Fae, Vampires, Shifters, Humans and Nightwalkers and lots of monsters destroying everything.

The world building could have been a bit better and the story is a little hard to stick with as it jumps around a lot at the start. But stick with it and you're in for a wild ride.

This is violent and visceral and yet in places emotional. There isn't much of a romance plot in this, it's very dark fantasy focused.

Riot the MMC the so called Saviour is dark and mysterious and not always as morally good as the name suggests.

I'm looking forward to book 2!

This is the first book in the Thread of Ruins series, and if you read it, it may just leave you craving more. Make sure to read the trigger warnings first, though.

The book had a dystopian feel, which came as a surprise to me somehow, but I was very drawn into the world created by this author. I felt the characters all had strong personalities and were memorable. Initially I wondered if this would be a long read, but once I started turning the pages, it was a little bit difficult to stop. I became invested in the story and characters, and in the latter half of the book, I became emotional, as I realised how attached I'd become to some of the characters. This satisfied my craving for a dark, intense read.

Thank you to the author for sending me an ARC copy to review.

This book wrecked me.

Not just because of the gorgeous, broken world or the slow-burn tension between two characters who should have destroyed each other—but because of that ending.

She was built for destruction. He was supposed to save the world from her. But something deeper bound them together—something no one could explain.

The final twist? I actually had to close the book and stare at the wall.

Please. Someone. Anyone. Give me the next book.

Thank you for the ARC opportunity. I look forward to more of your work!

4.5⭐️ I got to read this as an ARC and wow this was really good. Apocalyptic Earth with an interesting magic and political system. This was definitely more fantasy than romance. The romance was a slow burn that just got a flicker of a flame by the end of the book. Haze and Riot were both tortured souls and equally morally grey. They absolutely hate eachother but can’t seem to stand when the other hurts. The ending 20 pages left me so confused but in the best way. I’m excited for book two when it comes out!

This debut grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go. A gritty, violent world dripping in shadows, gods, curses, and impossible choices. It’s fantasy at its most feral.

A weapon built to destroy evil. A nightmare bound in chains. Their clash was fate—but survival has a price. Power plays, twisted loyalties, and the kind of tension that leaves you breathless.

The writing is lush, the pacing relentless, and the ending? Utterly devastating.

Zee Ghani's debut novel, Dark Virtue, will captivate you from start to finish. From her elegant prose to the unique world-building, this book shocked me in every good way. I especially appreciated the emotional depth of the characters and their histories. The twists and turns kept me on my toes, and I can't wait to read what this author has in store for readers next!

If I’m being honest, I did initially find it hard to follow with the story line jumping around and characters having more than one name. However, the world building and descriptions were fantastic. The FMC is fierce, the backbone of the story in my opinion. l've never rooted for a villains redemption more than I did with this one! I'm glad there's a book 2 on the way!

Ahhh where do I even start?!

It took me a little time to fully settle in, the world is very different from anything I’ve read so far, but once I did, I was hooked! Especially once we started getting Dream’s and Shadow’s story 😭. And the ending?! Perfection.

I’m afraid I didn’t finish the book, the book finished me. 🙃

Thus debut novel blew my mind! It grabbed me from the first page where you are thrown straight into a brutal, dark, broken world, a floating castle, ancient gods, royalty, slavery and evil.
The writing, the story telling, everything just pulled me into the depths of the destruction. Full of complex characters all slightly unhinged and told from multiple POV’s so you really get a taste of their perspectives.
It’s so intense and atmospheric aswell as being violent and gory but as I went along I always felt a sense of hope for the two main characters Riot and Haze.
The FMC - The Villain of the story completely stole my heart. Fierce, powerful and tormented but she was hiding a vulnerability and I was left rooting for her the whole way through.
The twists and turns kept me on my toes. I found myself dreading the ending desperate to know the outcome but at the same time I had a sense of unease salt what was about to happen. The last chapter was so powerful and that ending….exceptional!!!

Genre: Fantasy | Horror | Dystopian

This is no fairy tale, and it certainly isn't a redemption story. It is dark, thrilling, and full of horror. And I'm so here for it!!!

This is an epic read for me. It's the only infinity star book I've ever read 🤯 Let me tell you - this book is the reason I have eyeballs.. and no, I don't think that's being overly dramatic!

Why I am fully obsessed:
🖤 The imagery from the prologue is both horrifying and utterly intriguing - instant addition!
🖤 Multi 1st person POV (my favourite 😍)
🖤 HIGH Fantasy - buckle in (also my fave!)
🖤 Dark dystopian world - need I say more?
🖤 She's Morally black
🖤 He's a Morally grey antihero
🖤 Revenge like no other
🖤 Twists be twisting
🖤 A kick right to the feels
🖤 Gore galore
🖤 FMC is the baddest villain, ever!

Who doesn't love a good villain!!! FMC, Nightmare, is my favourite OF ALL TIME! She's unhinged, savage, unstoppable - with a side of humour, and gives zero f*cks! I must be messed up because I couldn't help being right in her corner, smirking at the terrible things she does 🫣

MMC, Saviour, is our tortured soul, anti-hero with a hidden monsterous side, and intense anger issues. They are inevitable!

The story cleaved me open and absolutely shattered me! I gave myself a headache from full-on ugly crying 😭

So much imagery from this book will live rent-free in my head forever!

And I LOVED the ending - a cliffhanger (obviously). I'm desperate for book 2, 3, 4... however many, I don't care - they're all mine, give them to me!

This is Zee Ghani's debut novel, by the way... 🤯 I can't believe how well written it is, perfectly paced and fully addictive. I didn't want to put it down and haven't stopped thinking about it. My favourite read of 2025... actually, EVER 🖤

If you like your fantasy dark, full of horror, and totally soul destroying like I do, you're really going to want to pick this up, like right now!
