  • The conversations at this year's #Apartmentalize made one thing clear: the definition of success in real estate is changing. Across discussions with operators, industry leaders, and innovators on the show floor, a consistent set of themes emerged about where the industry is headed and what it will take to outperform the market. Ambitious operators, in particular, are redefining what success looks like. While every organization is on its own journey, these were some of the strongest patterns we heard throughout the event: 1️⃣ Outcomes Are the New KPI Leading operators measure success by outcomes — not activity — creating more value for residents, investors, and teams. 2️⃣ AI is Ready to Execute AI is moving beyond assistance to help execute governed operational work, allowing teams to focus on higher-value priorities. 3️⃣ Data Quality Drives AI AI performs best when organizations understand their data, how it flows, and how it's governed. 4️⃣ Fix the Process First AI won't solve broken workflows; it amplifies them. Strong processes create the foundation for better AI outcomes. 5️⃣ AI Raises the Baseline AI gives more people access to expertise, helping teams accomplish more while keeping human judgment at the center. 6️⃣ Experience Drives Performance Resident experience, operational execution, and portfolio performance are interconnected. Improving one strengthens the others. These insights point to a fundamental shift in how operators define real performance. The conversation has moved beyond task-based property management to Real Estate Performance Management (RPM): a new discipline built on creating measurable value for the entire real estate ecosystem. AppFolio was built for exactly this moment. Not retrofitted. Not patched. Purpose-built to move operators from managing tasks to delivering outcomes through AI-native technology, unified data, and governed execution. #performanceliveshere #appfolio #rpm

  • Cat Allday recently spoke with Multifamily Dive about where real estate operators are putting AI to work, and what separates the ones actually getting ahead. The shift isn't about saving time. It's about what teams do once the coordination work is off their plate. Read Cat's take below 👇 #performanceliveshere #appFolio #RPM

What would your team do with an extra week’s worth of time? I've been asking real estate operators this question for a while, and the answers are starting to change. A year ago, most people said, "catch up." Today they're saying, "get ahead." That shift has a name: Real Estate Performance Management (RPM). And it doesn't happen by accident. It happens when the coordination work, follow-ups, tour scheduling, maintenance triage, delinquency outreach, etc., moves off the team's plate entirely, freeing them up to focus on the human side of real estate. And that’s where AppFolio Realm-X Performers come in. They don’t just speed up the work; they handle it. Remove it. Make space for teams to build stronger resident relationships, make more judgment calls, and deliver the portfolio insights that strengthen investor confidence. Some of that work will always require a real person. Knowing a community, showing up for residents, earning trust over time — that's not going anywhere. But the overhead that keeps real estate operators at their desks instead of in the field? That's what's changing. I went deeper on this in a recent interview with Multifamily Dive. Operators aren't asking whether AI is real anymore. They're asking whether they can trust it to act on their behalf. That’s what we heard from attendees all last week at Apartmentalize. When our booth opened, the answers were ready and waiting. What we showed wasn't a roadmap. It was a working platform, already running for customers: the AppFolio Realm-X Accounting Performer, Leasing Performer, and Resident Messenger Performer handling back-office work, answering leasing calls at 10 PM, and resolving resident questions before they become complaints. The reaction we received wasn't surprise that it was possible. It was recognition that this is what operators have been waiting for. There's still a building. There are still relationships that need a real person in the room. But what I kept hearing in New Orleans is that operators already know that. What they're ready for is a platform that knows it too. • Strong communities are built by people who invest in one another 💙 We're honored to support the Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara and celebrate the students, leaders, and organizations creating lasting impact across our region. Thank you to everyone who made this year's South Coast Business & Technology Awards such an inspiring evening! #appfolianway #communityimpact #scbtawards

Last night, I had the privilege of representing AppFolio at the South Coast Business & Technology Awards, an evening dedicated to celebrating the people and organizations driving innovation, leadership, and impact across our community. It was inspiring to be surrounded by the talent and generosity that make this region such an extraordinary place to live and work. One of the highlights of the evening was hearing Erik Holliday share his story. A Santa Barbara native, architect, community leader, and former scholarship recipient, Erik’s journey is a powerful reminder of how investing in education can shape not only individual futures but the future of our community, too. At AppFolio, we believe that creating opportunities for people to learn, grow, and reach their potential has a ripple effect. That’s why we’re proud to support the Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara and its work to help students pursue their goals and go on to make a meaningful difference in the world. Congratulations to this year’s honorees and scholarship recipients, and thank you to everyone who came together to celebrate the leaders, innovators, and changemakers helping Santa Barbara thrive.

What were the biggest themes at Apartmentalize 2026? According to Stacy Holden, the conversation around AI has evolved. While AI solutions were everywhere, operators were focused on something bigger: how to use technology to create meaningful outcomes for everyone and prepare their organizations for what's next. Read Stacy's reflections from #Apartmentalize, including key takeaways from the conversations, sessions, and trends that shaped this year's event ⬇️

Apartmentalize 2026 did not disappoint! The conversations this year felt different. AI was everywhere, but what I heard most often wasn't about the technology itself. It was about outcomes. It was about trust. It was about how leaders are preparing their organizations for what's next. I left New Orleans energized by the ideas being shared across our industry and the many operators who are embracing change while staying focused on the people they serve. Read my article below for more reflections on the week and let me know what conversations stuck with you most. Big thanks to all who joined us and to the National Apartment Association (Naahq) for yet another phenomenal Apartmentalize conference. What a great week!

Yesterday at #Apartmentalize, Stacy Holden, Matthew Baird, Steven R., and Erika Voss, PhD dug into AI, security, and what responsible adoption actually looks like for real operations. Data came up early and often. It is no longer static and the way it moves through systems creates real exposure if teams are not paying attention. There is also pressure on both sides. Move too fast and you create risk. Move too slow and you fall behind. Most teams are trying to find the balance in between. Across the discussion, AI kept coming back to the same reality: it only works when systems and people are ready together. Thank you to Stacy, Erika, Steven, and Matt for a conversation that cut through the noise and got straight to what teams are actually wrestling with right now! #performanceliveshere #appfolio #rpm
