✨ EVA 2025 – The Year That Changed Everything 2025 was no ordinary year for the European Virus Archive (EVA). It was the year we turned our vision into action and transformed our network into a true engine for European virology. 🌼 🎯 Spring milestone: EVA officially becomes an AISBL Validated by royal decree in Belgium, the AISBL status is more than a formality. It brings together 20 expert institutions in a sustainable infrastructure with solid governance, and a shared mission: empowering science with trusted viral resources for global pandemic preparedness and response. 💼 Our first General Assembly Our members collectively defined EVA’s future and the Board of Directors was born — international experts guiding our scientific and operational strategy. A big thank you to everyone who has embarked on this journey giving us their vote of trust! Aix-Marseille University, INSERM, IRD, Institut Pasteur, ANSES, Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut, Leibniz Institute DSMZ – German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures , Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine, chariteberlin, IZSLER - Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale della Lombardia e dell'Emilia Romagna, Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie, University of Ljubljana, Biomedicínské centrum SAV, Folkhälsomyndigheten, RIVM National Institute for Public Health and the Environment, Hellenic Pasteur Institute, UKHSA, APHA, University of Basel, CSIRO. 🎓 Board Members – 1st General Assembly ● Prof Tatjana Avsic (University of Ljubljana, Slovenia) ● Dr Beatrice Boniotti (IZSLER, Italy) ● Dr Hervé Bourhy (Institut Pasteur, France) ● Prof Remi Charrel (Aix-Marseille Université, France) ● Dr Boris Klempa (BMC-SAS, Slovakia) ● Dr Amber Hartman Scholz, Ph.D. (Leibniz Institute DSMZ, Germany) 2025 was the year EVA affirmed its identity. 2026 will be the year this identity turns into tangible impact for science and global health. 🚀 From all of us at EVA, we wish you all the best for 2026! May the new year be full of innovation, collaboration, and health for everyone.

EVORA_EU partners gathered at the Medical University of Graz (MUG) for the third general assembly of the project. Strategic discussions took place between EVA - AISBL, ERINHA and ELIXIR on: ⚙️ The best way to harmonise operation procedures across research infrastructures for optimal pandemic preparedness and response; ethical, logistics, regulatory and data-management-related aspects need to be taken into account, in order to establish long-term sustainable mechanisms through which the scientific community can access the available resources and services in case of a new health pandemic. ♻️ Research infrastructure sustainability in the evolving EU landscape; the long-term legacy of EVORA cannot be sustainable without the perennity of the RIs participating in the project. The acquisition of the AISBL legal status by EVA AISBL has been a major step forward in this direction. 🛠️ The upcoming drills EVORA is planning in order to test drive the capacity of the RIs to coordinate and respond to pandemic scenarios; yes, real-life-inspired viral emergence scenarios that will enable EVORA to literally ‘drill’ its operation procedures to perfection! Once more, thanks to MUG for helping to plan and for hosting this event!
