Our Memory Cafes bring caregivers and loved ones with dementia together to share laughter, art, music, and more. Watch our video to hear from participants as they share what they love most about these gatherings. It’s important to us that families living with dementia not only know they’re not alone, but truly feel supported and connected with others on the same journey. These moments remind us how powerful joy and companionship can be. 🎥 Our video is also part of the Memory Cafe Alliance Awareness Contest. Please show your support with a like, comment, or share! 🏆 Help us spread the word and inspire others to join or start a Memory Café in their community. Compassionate care for hospice, palliative, and memory needs—serving patients and families across NC & SC since 1980.
About us
At Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, we began in 1980 as a hospice dedicated to providing compassionate care to patients and families facing life-limiting illnesses. Over the years, as our communities have grown, so have we—expanding our services to include palliative care, memory care, and grief support. In 2024, we opened the first free-standing Palliative Medicine clinic in southeastern North Carolina, providing expert care for those managing serious illnesses, focusing on symptom relief, quality of life, and patient-centered decision-making. Additionally, our LifeCare Memory Partners division is proud to be the only provider east of Raleigh, north to Virginia, and south to Charleston to be accepted into the prestigious CMS GUIDE program, empowering caregivers and enhancing the lives of individuals with Alzheimer’s and related dementias. Today, we care for over 1,000 patients daily across southeastern North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina. Our services are offered in homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, hospitals, and our serene inpatient hospice care centers in Wilmington, Bolivia, and Whiteville. Grief support is central to our mission. We provide free counseling for adults and children, including workshops, individual sessions, and programs like Sunrise Kids, ensuring that families have the tools to navigate loss with compassion and connection. As a nonprofit organization, we rely on our community's generosity and our Foundation's support to ensure we can provide care to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay. Guided by our values of quality, teamwork, respect, compassion, and integrity, we are dedicated to serving all touched by life-limiting illness. Yesterday, the Whiteville Garden Club presented a $10,000 donation to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in support of Phase 2 of the Butterfly Garden at the Angel House Hospice Care Center in Whiteville. The project, designed by LifeCare teammate Jason Hicks, will expand the garden with more flowers, greenery, and a gazebo for families and visitors to enjoy. 🌿 We’re so grateful to the Garden Club for their generosity and continued care in helping create a peaceful space for comfort and reflection. If you’d like to learn more about dedicating a plant, feature, or element of the garden in honor or memory of a loved one, please reach out to us. #LifeCareTeam #CommunitySupport #HospiceCare #ButterflyGarden

💡 A Gift of Comfort and Light! Nicole Weller of Leland recently donated small LED trees for each patient room at the SECU Hospice House of Brunswick in memory of her mother, who was cared for here. “My mom had one in her room when she was here. She enjoyed it and it brought us all some comfort,” Nicole shared. Each tree carries the inscription: “May soft lights comfort you along the way. The Rosemarie Dorthe Family.” Nicole is pictured with Anne Hewett, Senior Fundraising Executive for Lower Cape Fear LifeCare. Acts of kindness like this bring light and warmth to the families we serve. Thank you, Nicole! #LifeCareTeam #HospiceCare #CommunitySupport #PalliativeCare

We’re always humbled by the words families share about their experiences with our care team. Every message like this reminds us why we do what we do. Here’s one recent review from Google: 💙💙💙💙💙 “Absolutely amazing staff!!! The facility is conveniently located, clean, efficient layout, but the best part is the staff! I could not ask for a better group of folks to care for my mother during her passing from gastric cancer. The facility depends a lot on donations, which we are so grateful for the community's generosity during our time there. We will be sure to pay it forward with donations as well. Thank you so much for all that you do!” #FiveStarCare #LifeCareTeam #HospiceCare

🎵 Music has a unique way of bringing comfort, sparking memories, and creating moments of peace. Recently, music therapy volunteer Michele shared her gift of music at our Brunswick County care center. As she played, a lifelong friend of a patient reflected on how much music had always meant to her loved one, who once served as a church pianist for many years. Moments like these show how the compassion, time, and talents of our amazing volunteers bring light to difficult times. We would not be a Five-Star hospice without their dedication, and we are grateful to Michele and to all who share their heart to comfort our patients and families. 💜 #Volunteers #MusicTherapy #HospiceCare #LifeCare
