Lucentia was selected for the American Heart Association Ventures Heart & Brain Health Accelerator, in partnership with MedTech Innovator. Our founder, Sahar Jalal, started Lucentia to expand access to advanced coronary diagnostics by turning routine non-contrast cardiac CT scans into richer coronary insights. Excited to share that Lucentia has been selected for the 2026 MedTech Innovator Accelerator Cohort, and is among eight companies selected globally to participate in the American Heart Association’s Heart & Brain Health Accelerator, a specialty track within MTI. This year’s MTI cohort was selected from 1,835 applicants worldwide, representing the top 4% of applicants. Lucentia is building the mammogram of the heart: AI that turns routine non-contrast cardiac CT scans into coronary diagnostics — without contrast injection, new hardware, or workflow change. The problem we’re solving is a major gap in cardiovascular care: calcium scoring is accessible and scalable, but limited; CCTA is diagnostically powerful, but expensive and operationally constrained. Our goal is to bring advanced coronary insights into the routine scans already performed at scale. It’s like a mammogram of the heart! She is the Founder and CEO of Lucentia, an AI-powered medtech company pioneering next-generation cardiac diagnostics. A scientist turned entrepreneur, she brings deep expertise in medical imaging, mechanics, and translational technologies across cardiovascular and respiratory systems. Sahar earned her PhD in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Minnesota, specializing in fluid–structure interaction and advanced imaging methods. Saha later completed a postdoctoral fellowship in radiology at Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork–Presbyterian Hospital, where she led five years of NIH-funded research that produced one of the world’s most comprehensive ex-vivo #cardiac datasets. As a lead innovator on multiple patents, she developed proprietary imaging methods and unique datasets that now form the scientific foundation of Lucentia. In 2025, she founded Lucentia with the mission of reinventing how coronary artery disease is detected. Under her leadership, the company has established clinical partnerships with major health systems in the US and abroad and secured investment from leading early-stage firms including Long Journey Ventures, Transpose Platform, and Entrepreneur First. Born and raised in Morocco, Sahar left home at 18 on a full scholarship to pursue her education in the United States. Alongside her scientific and entrepreneurial work, she leads programs supporting diaspora entrepreneurship, founder development, and cross-border innovation.
