Blackman High School and Middle Tennessee State University renewed their partnership today for the Blackman Collegiate Academy. The high school and university originally signed the partnership in January 2015, and today's signing marks the third renewal. 🎉👏 Dr. Wally Luckeydoo, a personal finance teacher at Smyrna High School, has been named the recipient of the Corey Carlisle Public Policy Award from the Jump$tart Coalition. Jump$tart is a nonprofit group that partners with more than 100 different agencies to promote financial literacy among students. The award goes to educators who work to spread the word about financial literacy beyond their schools and classrooms through volunteerism and other efforts. The award includes a scholarship that allows Luckeydoo to serve as one of five ambassadors for personal finance education and funds the cost of attendance to Jump$tart's 2026 annual conference. The Tennessee Department of Education's Special Education & Student Support Department recently published highlights of a partnership between Rutherford County Schools' Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP) and classroom teachers. The highlight, in part, reads: “In a forward-thinking initiative, the Speech and Language Team, under the direction of Lead Speech-Language Pathologist Angela Shofner and Coordinator of Special Education, Dr. Annie Ralston, is enhancing student support by integrating speech-language pathologists into classroom settings. Rather than working solely in separate therapy spaces, SLPs are now collaborating directly with teachers within classrooms to address communication challenges that impact learning across the curriculum. This allows for a focus on improving outcomes for students with disabilities across the educational setting. “This partnership enables SLPs to share strategies for promoting speech and language development, enhancing classroom discourse, and supporting students with speech and language needs in real-time. Teachers benefit from expert guidance on how to scaffold instruction, model language-rich interactions, and adapt materials to meet the diverse needs of learners." 🥳 🎉 Jodi Del Cid, an ESL teacher at David Youree Elementary, was recently named Middle Tennessee teacher of the year by the Tennessee Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TNTESOL). The award was announced at TNTESOL’s annual conference in November. Del Cid has served as an ESL teacher for more than seven years. In a nomination, district ESL Coach Dr. Terah Pring noted Del Cid’s “unwavering commitment” to students and colleagues how Del Cid’s efforts positioned David Youree Elementary and its ESL team to serve as a model for other schools. “As her ESL District Coach, I am particularly impressed by her openness to coaching and her genuine desire for continuous improvement. It is not as common for veteran teachers to actively seek out model lessons, coaching cycles, and additional professional learning opportunities; yet Ms. Del Cid does so enthusiastically,” Pring wrote. “She is eager to expand her toolkit, refine her practice, and ensure that her students receive the highest-quality instruction. “She asks thoughtful, challenging questions, models professionalism in every interaction, and embodies the qualities of an educator who is deeply committed to excellence.” Congratulations, Ms. Del Cid! Educators from multiple Rutherford County Schools campuses have been selected to serve on the Tennessee Department of Education’s English Learner Educator Working Groups. The working groups were designed to address issues impacting English Learners and their teachers. They will focus on intensive language instruction and service time for English learners and supporting rigorous content instruction in general education classrooms, according to the state Department of Education.
