Yet today, much of what is branded as “education” is actually marketing in disguise. The conflict of interest is obvious: • Asset managers profit when investors buy more products. • True education sometimes means telling investors not to invest. The result? • Biased information that highlights returns but hides risks. • Herd behavior that fuels bubbles and panics. • Exclusion of seniors, rural investors, and first-time savers who are not “profitable” to target. Investor awareness is a public good. It must be led by regulators, consumer bodies, and independent educators—not left to those with sales quotas. Leaving investor education to the industry is like letting pharmaceutical companies write the medical textbooks.
