Director of Brand Marketing
At this time, we are only able to consider candidates who are based in Washington, New York, Connecticut, North Carolina, Tennessee, or Georgia. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
About REBEL
REBEL is the first and largest tech platform transforming retail’s $1 trillion returns problem into a smarter, more sustainable model. As the only Certified B Corporation returns recommerce marketplace backed by top-tier investors, we’re leading the returns revolution—partnering with over 2,500 top brands to give shoppers unbeatable deals of up to 70% off on open-box products, while keeping millions of pounds of returns out of landfills every year.
This role is for a rare kind of brand leader: deeply strategic, relentlessly execution-oriented, and energized by doing the work—not outsourcing it.
The Role
REBEL is seeking a Director of Brand Marketing to own and scale our brand through social-first storytelling, earned media, PR, and influencer-driven growth. This leader will be directly accountable for building awareness at scale by creating stories, moments, and content designed to break through culture and go viral.
You will fully own REBEL’s organic social presence—strategy, voice, content, and performance—and personally drive execution alongside a lean team. This is not a “manage agencies” role. This is a role for someone who knows how brands actually grow on the internet.
What You’ll Own
Social Media & Viral Storytelling
Own REBEL’s organic social strategy end-to-end across key platforms (e.g., Instagram, TikTok, emerging channels)
Define and evolve REBEL’s social voice, tone, and storytelling style to maximize reach, shareability, and cultural relevance
Set a clear point of view on what content should travel, trend, and break through, and personally help create it
Drive a high-velocity test-and-learn content engine focused on virality, scaled awareness, and brand affinity
Establish goals and metrics for organic reach, impressions, engagement, share of voice, and follower growth
Brand Strategy, Voice & Narrative
Define, evolve, and protect REBEL’s brand positioning, voice, and personality
Create and maintain brand voice and style guidelines that scale across the organization
Ensure storytelling is consistent, distinctive, and unmistakably REBEL across all channels
Act as the brand steward, ensuring teams move fast without diluting the brand
Earned Media & PR (Hands-On)
Personally drive earned media strategy and execution—story development, pitching, and relationship building
Turn social momentum and cultural moments into PR wins, and vice versa
Secure consistent, high-impact coverage that reinforces REBEL’s brand story and fuels awareness
Influencer, Partnerships & Creator Growth
Personally identify, recruit, and manage creator and influencer partnerships
Build creator programs designed for authentic storytelling and organic reach, not paid performance
Ensure influencer content feels native, on-brand, and capable of driving viral moments
Build partnerships with other brands and opportunities to grow brand awareness and virality
Cultural & Community Marketing
Identify cultural moments, trends, and internet conversations where REBEL can credibly participate
Build grassroots brand buzz through community engagement and reactive storytelling
Turn customers and fans into active brand advocates
Leadership & Scale
Hire and develop a small, high-impact social and brand team over time
Build lightweight processes that enable speed, creativity, and consistency
Partner closely with founders, growth, creative, and product teams to align brand storytelling with business goals
What We’re Looking For
Experience
7-10+ years in brand marketing, social, PR, or cultural marketing
Proven track record of growing brands through organic social and earned media
Demonstrated experience creating or leading viral, culturally resonant brand moments
Experience building and enforcing brand voice and social guidelines across teams
Startup or challenger brand experience strongly preferred
Skill Set
Exceptional storyteller with strong writing and creative instincts
Deep understanding of how content spreads on social platforms
Strong POV on what works—and what doesn’t—on the internet today
Data-informed but creatively led; knows how to balance metrics with intuition
Comfortable operating without agencies, big teams, or safety nets
Mindset
Builder mentality with a bias toward action
Willing to personally create, edit, post, and iterate
Low ego, high standards, strong opinions, loosely held
Energized by speed, experimentation, and ownership
Obsessed with turning social storytelling into massive brand awareness
Why REBEL
Own social and brand storytelling at a company ready to scale awareness fast
Direct access to founders and executive leadership
Real ownership, visibility, and accountability
Rocket-ship growth with meaningful upside
The chance to build a brand people actually talk about
