🧠 Belgian neurotechnology #startup ReVision Implant has raised €4 million in an oversubscribed funding round to advance its brain-computer interface designed to restore vision for people with severe blindness. The round included support from existing investors alongside new European business leaders and medtech operators. ReVision Implant is developing a cortical visual prosthesis that bypasses damaged eyes and optic nerves by interfacing directly with the brain’s visual cortex — enabling patients to perceive and interpret visual information even when traditional retinal or optic nerve therapies are no longer viable. The funding builds on strong public support, including several European Innovation Council grants such as the €2.4 million FlairVision project, alongside backing from Plug and Play and imec.istart. As part of its next growth phase, the company has already begun building its own cleanroom infrastructure to bring critical manufacturing processes in-house ahead of future clinical trials. According to CEO Frederik Ceyssens, the investment will help ReVision Implant expand its team, strengthen regulatory compliance, scale manufacturing capabilities, and continue product development as it moves closer to clinical deployment. The company is part of a wider wave of innovation in neurotechnology and brain-computer interfaces, where researchers and startups are developing devices aimed at addressing blindness, paralysis, amputations, aphasia, and locked-in syndrome. With fresh funding secured, ReVision Implant is now preparing for the next stage of clinical development and operational scale-up. Last week, Michio Painter, Anna Hanzl and Mirco Müller hosted our second SPARK event of the year at the Translational Medicine Accelerator (TMA) / Spark Zurich, this time focused on innovative medtech projects. Together with an outstanding group of advisors we welcomed two exciting projects to SPARK:   -Skaaltec presented by Paulius Viskaitis, developing a non-invasive approach for vagus nerve stimulation to support the rehabilitation of stroke patients.   -MutaDent presented by Isaac Maximiliano Bugueno Valdebenito and Argyro Lamprou, Ph.D, developing a regenerative biomaterial for deep carious lesions with the potential to actively restore damaged dental tissue and reduce the need for root canal treatments and tooth extraction.   During the evening, we had very constructive discussions around topics such as regulatory pathways, pricing and reimbursement strategies as well as clinical adoption.   A special thank you to all advisors for sharing your time, expertise and honest feedback.
