Looking ahead to 2027: keeping media freedom on the G20 agenda With the United States hosting the G20 in 2026, members of the Media20 initiative are realistic about the challenges ahead. But rather than standing still, media advocates are already focused on 2027, when the United Kingdom takes over the G20 presidency. At this year's DW Global Media Forum, experts Gypsy Guillén Kaiser, Dr Yemisi Akinbobola, Paula Miraglia, Birgit Pickel and Mel Bunce discussed how to advance information integrity, independent journalism and sustainable media ecosystems in an increasingly difficult global environment. The conversation highlighted how important it is to acknowledge that free and independent media are not only democratic necessities but also drivers of economic development, stability and growth. As discussions continue, one message remains clear, writes Folke Kayser for #DWFreedom: supporting independent, fact-based and accountable journalism is essential for resilient societies and healthy economies. https://lnkd.in/etTU8q2u
