I’ve known Shane Hegde for over 15 years (and been friends with him for at least 10 of those), yet despite being one of Air’s first customers and best friends with Ariel Rubin, it somehow took until the final season of Out To Lunch to finally get the invite. I’m not sure who dropped out, but this must be what they mean by founder persistence – I never gave up on the dream. It’s been so fun to build Sweet Nothings while Shane builds Air. We couldn’t have more different businesses, leadership styles or LinkedIn content strategies, but I continue to learn so much from him about building and leading during our weekly runs and double dates. Thanks for having me!
I had to learn why Jake Kneller walked away from a career in finance to build a frozen snack brand. So I wore a sweater vest and grabbed a beer with him at a smokey speakeasy in New York City. The hour that ensued was a mixture of friendly chirps and lessons on how to build a business that lasts. Jake and his team started Sweet Nothings nearly 7 years ago and I will always be grateful that he was one of Air’s earliest customers. Through the years he has ignored consumer hype cycles and remained focused on building a superior product for his retailers and customers. Instead of overindulging one of my closest friends with an overabundance of compliments, I’ll just let you watch yourself. Sometimes, Jake says, it’s a simple game. Full episode in the comments!
