Contrary to what many in tech believe, the politicians in Brussels are not out-of-touch bureaucrats. They are deep in the details, and many of them are genuinely determined to build a framework for a more competitive and sovereign European internet. 🇪🇺 Last week, at the EPP Group in the European Parliament’s High-Level European Digital Summit, that reality became crystal clear. When I spoke about the urgent need for European tech sovereignty, the reaction in the room was immediate — not polite applause, but a surge of recognition that we all feel the same urgency about Europe’s digital future. Even more encouraging: MEPs, CEOs, and European Commission officials didn’t just listen — they engaged. We discussed real solutions, not rhetoric: ensuring data access for innovators, enforcing fair competition, and safeguarding European technology from being hollowed out by global gatekeepers. Huge thanks to Manfred Weber and the EPP Group for creating a space where entrepreneurs and policymakers can speak candidly and constructively about what it takes to make Europe competitive again. Europe has the talent, the companies, and — finally — the political will. Now, it’s time to turn alignment into action. 🚀

Having similar view. The will is definitely there.

Johannes, this is great. Do you see real evidence of regulations and policies adjusting? I'm not seeing it from my (admittedly limited) experience building our Amsterdam team. As we grow I see an increasing set of rules and regulations that slow us down, individually not always significant but in aggregate leading us to be cautious and shift some of our hiring back to the US. I would love to see some actual, meaningful change, removing regulations. This seems politically very hard to do.

Well said 👏 It’s great to see real alignment between policymakers and innovators. Europe has everything it needs — talent, vision, and momentum. Now it’s about execution and scaling impact. 🇪🇺🚀

This is exactly the conversation Europe needs right now... collaboration between policymakers and innovators who understand both the technology and the stakes. Alignment is a start. Execution is everything.
