Early in my journey in data analytics, I used to jump straight into Power BI visuals, thinking “the more charts, the better the insight.” Turns out, it’s the opposite. Now I start with 3 simple questions: • What decision will this data actually support? • Who is going to use this insight? • What action should change after this report? Only after that do I touch SQL, Excel, or Power BI. Because a clean dashboard that doesn’t drive action is just… expensive decoration. 😄 Data isn’t the hero. Decisions are. This is why your Power BI dashboard feels confusing Not because of visuals. Not because of DAX. Because of your data model. Here’s what most people miss: Power BI doesn’t “understand” your data. It follows relationships. If your model has: • Many-to-many joins • No proper dimensions • Mixed granularity Your numbers will behave unpredictably. A clean model usually looks like this: 👉 One fact table (transactions) 👉 Multiple dimension tables (date, product, customer) 👉 One-direction relationships This is called a Star Schema Why it works: ✔ Faster queries ✔ Simpler DAX ✔ Better filtering logic Good dashboards don’t start with visuals.
