📊A dashboard is useless if it doesn’t answer a business question. Many beginners focus too much on making dashboards look attractive. But in real Data Analytics, the first question should always be: “What problem am I trying to solve?” Before building any dashboard, ask yourself: ✔ What decision will this help with? ✔ Who is going to use it? ✔ What KPI actually matters? ✔ What insight should stand out immediately? A good dashboard doesn’t just show data — it helps people understand what to do next. Good design attracts attention. Good insights create value. 📊 #DataAnalytics #DataAnalyst #PowerBI #DashboardDesign #SQL #Excel #BusinessIntelligence #Analytics #LearningInPublic
Building a dashboard that answers business questions, not just looks good

This week, I didn’t build a dashboard. I spent most of my time asking questions. Not SQL. Not Power BI. Just questions like: — “What exactly are we counting here?” — “Why is this number different from the other report?” — “Who actually uses this metric?” — “What decision depends on this?” And honestly… That part of data work is not talked about enough. Because people see the final dashboard. They don’t see the confusion before it. The back and forth. The inconsistencies. The moments where nothing makes sense. That’s where the real work is. Not in the visuals. But in figuring out what’s actually true. #DataAnalytics #DataAnalyst #BusinessIntelligence #Analytics #DataThinking #DataWork #DataLife #ProblemSolving #BehindTheScenes #DataCommunity #DataFam

📊 A dashboard is not insight. It is only a mirror of your data. Many professionals build beautiful dashboards filled with colors, charts, and filters… yet decision-makers still ask: What should we do next? The real value of data analysis begins when we move from reporting to action. ✅ Data tells you what happened ✅ Analysis explains why it happened ✅ Insight guides what to do next Before sharing any report, ask yourself these 3 questions: 1️⃣ What is the key message? 2️⃣ What business problem does this solve? 3️⃣ What action should be taken immediately? The best analysts are not just report builders. They are problem solvers. 📌 Don’t impress people with charts. Impress them with clarity. #DataAnalytics #BusinessIntelligence #PowerBI #SQL #DataVisualization #Analytics #LinkedInTips

Most data analysis stops at showing what’s happening. But that’s not where the value is. The value is in deciding what to do next. While working on a dataset using SQL and Power BI, I could clearly see where delays were happening. But that raised a bigger question: If I had to act on this, where should I start? Because not every issue needs attention. And not every insight creates impact. So instead of just building dashboards, I started focusing on: → Which problem affects the system the most → Where a small change could improve overall performance → What decision this analysis is actually supporting That completely changed how I approach analytics. It’s no longer just: “What does the data show?” It’s: “What action should this lead to?” Because clean dashboards don’t create value. Clear decisions do. Still refining this approach, but it’s already making my analysis more focused and useful. Curious - when you’re working with data, do you prioritize insights or actions? #DataAnalytics #SQL #PowerBI #DecisionMaking #BusinessAnalytics

Everyone wants to build dashboards. But not everyone wants to climb the stairs to get there. Excel → SQL → Data Cleaning → EDA → Statistics → Business Understanding → Visualization These aren’t optional steps—they’re the foundation. Skipping them might get you quick results, but mastering them will get you real impact. I’m choosing to climb, not jump. 🚀 #DataAnalytics #LearningJourney #SQL #EDA #DataVisualization #CareerGrowth #Upskill

Most beginners think: More charts = Better dashboard ❌ 💡 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: Simple dashboards perform better. 📊 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀: • Clear KPIs • Easy comparison • Clean layout • Fast understanding ⚡ 𝗤𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗥𝘂𝗹𝗲 If users need to think too much… your dashboard is already failing. 🔥 𝗦𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 = 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗹 #PowerBI #DataAnalytics #DashboardDesign #DataVisualization #BusinessIntelligence

Data cleaning is one of the most important parts of data analysis… yet it’s often overlooked. Before any charts, dashboards, or insights, there’s messy data. Missing values, inconsistent formats, and information packed in ways that make analysis difficult. If your data isn’t clean, your results won’t be accurate. It’s that simple. Cleaning data is what makes analysis possible. It turns confusion into clarity and raw information into something meaningful. Every reliable insight you see is built on well-prepared data. As I continue my journey in data analysis, I’m learning that the real work doesn’t start with visualization, it starts with cleaning the data properly. #DataAnalytics #DataCleaning #Excel #PowerQuery #LearningInPublic #TechSkills #DataJourney

🧊 What’s your favourite day-to-day data hack? Mine is the Reshape Data function in the Tableau add‑on for Excel. I often get pivoted data, usually financials. It’s far easier to work with data in a tabular format, so the first thing I do is reshape it so there is one row per item, assuming the metric is the same (e.g. one row per month). I came across this probably 10 years ago and still use it most weeks, even though I’ve not touched Tableau in years. No doubt there are other/better ways, but this one just stuck. Anyone else got any routine tricks they use? #DataAnalytics #PowerBI #Excel #DataTips

Jumping to solutions too quickly. A stakeholder would ask for a dashboard… and I would immediately start thinking about visuals, KPIs, and data sources. But over time, I realized: The request is rarely the real requirement. Sometimes, a “dashboard” request actually means: • A decision that needs clarity • A problem that isn’t fully understood • A gap in current reporting Now, before building anything, I focus more on: Understanding the actual need behind the request. Because the best analysts don’t just deliver what is asked… They uncover what is actually needed. #BusinessAnalyst #DataAnalyst #Analytics #PowerBI #SQL #ProblemSolving #BusinessAnalysis

Choosing the right chart can completely change how your data is understood. While working with program data, I realized something important: It’s not just about having data… It’s about how you present it. Here’s a simple way I now think about data visualization: 📈 Line Chart → To show trends over time 📊 Bar Chart → To compare categories 🥧 Pie Chart → To show proportions 🔍 Scatter Plot → To find relationships 🔥 Heatmap → To identify patterns 📊 Dashboard → To see everything in one place Earlier, I used to randomly pick charts in Excel. Now, I try to match the chart with the story I want to tell. This small shift is helping me improve how I present data to stakeholders and donors. Still learning, but getting better step by step. #DataAnalytics #DataVisualization #LearningInPublic #Excel #PowerBI #DataForGood
