Clovis

Too close to call coin flip joke. Really enjoyed both of these entries and the beats hit really close all the way through, but in the end I'm going to have to say I enjoyed the story and outcome in the Clovis story better.

Diesel Junky

Two fights with the animation and animatics. The Crab Truck roof top battle was great and I thought the ending to Leo's fight was truly a closer for the character before it is revealed he LIVES IN CRAB 5 WOOOOO!!! My vote goes to Diesel Junky for making an engaging battle even without the assistance of a fully sung song.

Ignatius

Very close beats in the stories. A seemingly similar pattern for Round 3s but here in lies the rub. I enjoy HI's comic's ending more than the ending in Ignatius's however, I enjoyed the fight in Iggy's animatic more. The only thing I would add would be sound effects to the animatic. But its a choice to leave 'em out. It just makes it silly to read "Inhuman Screaming"

Melody

Similar beats different outcomes I kept flip flopping on my choice for this match because it kinda summarizes the issue with CUM on the whole. My preference falls towards Melody's story for it being about Melody V Jugglejack. It's a tough pitch for me to always feel like people are leaning on other character's in their narratives taking the focus away from the fight to something else but the larger narrative was more interesting.

Ash

Henry took the savage advice to heart and went all in which I appreciated seeing and Ash's work continues to be strong and straight forward depicting her journey through Crab.

Aiyori

I enjoyed the sadder ending of the two. The drama felt more narratively satisfying.

Houndclops

Tough call. Between Gouda cameo and the bleak ending of Mendi I went with the unpleasant but pointed reminder that Houndclops is a monster.

Giggles

I believe in redemption arcs and I feel that Dea made a great showing in this round for their final, but Giggles hit it out of the ball park with their entry. Good reads all around!

Caddi vs Ash - Ash

Caddi's comic had several interesting visual elements such as the clocktower (Which was extremely well drawn good job) and the idea of having people dance in a rave with diffrent colors was great as well.

Ash's comic was slightly messy, but it had and kept to a really cool dark theme I really enjoyed.

Ana good job on the setting. Some plot elements like the medicine were slightly lost on me, but Ana's changes made for interesting developments.

I enjoy Jugglejack much more thanks to this comic's characterization and handling of the opponent.

I have strong thoughts and feelings about this match. Narratively speaking Zehya's is more impactful for the characters where Clovis is just going through another round but the story from Zehya's perspective adds to her strained mental state.

Ellie vs Hemma - Hemma

Hemma wins. I feel that even without the issues that caused the delay my comic might have scored ok due to strengths like backgrounds and character interaction bullhonkey, but would have been beaten to how well Hemma's comic stuck to the prompt, the setting and the characters. I'm glad to have had this match even with its outcome.

Mara Kuja vs Smoke - Mara Kuja

Loved the background in Mara Kuja's comic. Very nice work.

I was thrown for a loopty loop in Smoke's comic when the words were busted out, but nothing could prepare me for the twist.

Dizzy vs Jun-ho - Dizzy

Dizzy's comic really had a fun ending that narratively I enjoyed the outcome for.

Jun-ho's comic had a good use of the backgrounds and while there were some gradients I didn't enjoy the gradients for the rats portions were fitting in making the scene feel grungy.

Truth be told I loved the time warrior expressions in Houndclop's piece and it shows the love you have for your opponents you should kiss him on the mouth. We need more time for this stuff man fuck I'm so tired. Time warrior you rendering goon, witnessed.

I feel the horror elements present in Gilroy's comic and I love it! It was a real who dunnit caper in the cops comic and can I say nice job with the fucking choppers what the hell man.

Kelly vs Marv - Kelly

Kelly and Marv sitting in a tree. D r i n k i n g. As per usual a strong comedic showing from Marv from the outset, with amazing cute expressions from Kelly's side! In the end the cuteness won out in my heart.

Atta vs Berry - Berry

Of the two comics let me say that while I enjoyed the narrative outcome of Atta's comic more than Berries, Berry could have fixed this simply by not writing out a last panel narration box "And then Atta's plans were over forever" as an after thought. X YOUR COMIC WAS GREAT MAN WHY DID YOU DO IT ACKKKKKK SHOW DON'T TELL. I was in voice call like "What the hell why did he do that?" You may not see it this way, but doing that was killing a narrative with a world bubble and it came off as lazy.

You can tell how much tilted I am by the length of this review in general. Ardi I can tell the struggles you had with finishing your narrative to get to the cool ending and it was a dope ass ending. I would just say it did not stand as well to the payoffs Berry achieved besides the one oopsie at the end.

In terms of writing stakes Lord Ax'ppos brings the heat! But in terms of Bratwursts he still brings the heat and pours it into Scarlet's batch HEY THIS GUY'S EVIL! I enjoy the shining splendor of a happy scarlet it was surprising wholesome. I have thoughts about the epilogue for Lord Ax but I will have to save them for now.

 The story was straightforward, but I was confused by the "droopy" fluid (probably alcohol) used to ignite herself. The reason for the ceasefire felt weak, though I liked the comforting end with Kelly accepting her loss.

 The writing felt cheesy at first, but I enjoyed the Scorpion King's funny reaction to getting shot. The battle that followed was solid, with entertaining action and good chemistry between the two.

Loved the ambition, but the lack of sound and polish hurt the impact. The leg sword counter moment was conceptually strong but didn’t land emotionally.

You'll have to remember that NG is a generational site. Everyone comes in waves here and they try to push their culture from wherever they came from. When the Tumblr Exodus (2018) happened Ng was desperate to bring over Porn artist so NG became everyone dumping site for porn people. There was a huge push for Twitter people (2018-Now) to post here so they started front paging and actively promoting on twitter to people to catch more artists and the did but it just became another dumping site for art galleries

Side note:

(NG was in the running with Deviant art for having the best art gallery format IMO but Deviant allows AI art so they lose congrats to NG on being the best art dump)

Then there was the big push for FNF where people started seeing NG as maybe an advertising platform, but it's just Artists selling shit to artists. And the community shifted to POSITIVITY no negative nellys allowed unless it's ironic lol but like if ur fr rn I'm bout to act up. So all the old (bundle of sticks) died off when they couldn't be nasty to lgbtq+ people anymore and the place spun around to the handful of post fnf folks and whoever was left from the bad old days.

You can see where the divide stands where the 2020+ people go "No the good artists aren't all gone they're on other parts of the site and the forums aren't good anyway" and the slightly older people lamenting that the bbs could be epic with more front page attention but with the dissolving of the general forum and the broad message from Tom and the "NG cummunity" for people to fuck off to private discords or set up their own discords than use the BBS it's been over for a long time. It was over by the time I came with my generation "Sleepy cabin fans desperate to rejoin NG" in 2014. Everyone wants to act like they were "hip with it" but 90% weren't.

So you're going to get alot of people saying "make it better bro", but as a forum of communication ;) BBS are extremely limiting for most users who aren't from the era they came from.

In the very same comic thread you're talking about right now Des is tirelessly working around the various compression issues that plague the BBS because literally no one fucking cares about the forums at all anymore besides the vestiges of the past.

Discord is better (For now) and will probably be supplanted by some other thing when it shills out and the "hip and happening place" will move again.

Brown haired boy OC isn't very interesting on his own. He needs a gimmick to stand apart from all the rest of those posers who also have brown hair and the like! Keep reading comics/manga and practicing this as you spot what makes comics interesting developing your style until you eventually are getting asked by strangers how you learned to make comics. Give them false advice and protect your product. You must gatekeep the secret of hard work from the masses as they won't listen to you anyway. When all is said and done tell them that you never were good at comics and feel like a big failure.

See these two books? Everyone larps that they've read the first one entirely and they assume the 2nd is like the first. The first book is about the meta of "What makes a comic a comic" Like explaining comics to an alien who's never seen one before. It's good for snobs and youtubers with commentary channels to use to pretend to understand comics when really it doesn't impart taste but only meta knowledge of comic structure which is only helpful for comic enthusiasts to interpret what's in front of their faces.

The second one will probably be more interesting to you especially considering your question. It has good advise that I could say here in this ng thread but I choose not to help everypony because all of you mothercloppers got it twisted thinking advice will make up for practicing skills actively when you should be drawing more comics

Hey my clocka that's a good question! Why is it called Hazbin Hotel? Well one could say that it's a play on the phrase Has-been a person who was once something of a debutant or celebrity and seeing that two of the characters staying at the Hazbin hotel were once overlords in Hell it makes some kind of sense. (Radio Demon, and the bartender fuck) Maggie falling out of her old profession as well as the snake guy kinda losing his chances to being one of the big Vs or whwatever are further examples.

However, Angel Dust isn't really a has been as he's still actively preforming? They don't show someone who's replaced him in his porn stardom, and as for the other inhabitants of the hotel they really aren't people of great renown as far as I can see from the show. (Charlie isn't a has been as she's still in the process of being someone for example). Beyond all that who can say? Alliteration is funni

It's a tricky situation, there are some decent bug lady artists out there (mostly Japan from what I can see) that are pushing the boundaries in the directions of "appealing" bug women designs. They do rely heavily on Anime Girl but bug in

The eternal debate ends up being this: Do I try sticking to the actual insect design? Or adapt it for a wider appeal for general consumption. Follow your heart honestly and you'll find what you want to actually do

I'm glad to hear it. The thing skoops said was also important and points more to fundamental lacking towards form/ anatomy and structure. Do take his words to heart as they are important for artistic improvement.

I would look into :Figure Drawing: Design and Invention a Book by Michael Hampton if you have the patience to read or his courses from the class if you have the time to search for them/pay for them.

Your character design has no insect elements that would show it's a cockroach. It leans more to an owl in design.

EDIT: WHOOPS There are some hits towards the cockroach design. I just didn't see them of first glace sorry.

Also showing that she has fire powers will help the characterization you are trying to sell.

Remember: We can't see all the amazing things your character can do or know the working of their minds without some kind of story telling so when working on depicting what is essentially "One frame" of their existence you should try to represent them in that state the best you can.

****BUG CHARACTER DESIGN OPINION INCOMING WARNING WHOOP WHOOP*****

I love bug characters. They are appealing to me, but my sensibilities are severally warped and most people DO NOT find bugs appealing in anyway. People are just warming up to Moths because they're fuzzy and kinda like furries??? HMM??? So everyone draws them as such. But bugs are horrifical monstrosities:

and while Furries have the benefit of making animals that are already kind

of appealing... Even more uhh *cough* interesting...

So am I saying to not make her a cockroach? EEhhh sorta? Kinda? It's a lot harder to make a stylistically appealing bug design that goes beyond just "Lady with bug elements in her clothing". Which Michelle here already has plenty of sun related character motifs filling out her design. If you keep working at the design maybe it will come through, but as it stands appealing bug elements might be a bit to hard for most people to find enjoyable or attempt. I'll even take a crack at a concept design for you with a lean towards cockroach but I'm doubtful it will come out properly.

Normally this would seem like a non issue to those who don't care about fringe weirdo sexual stuff, but I'm curious what YOU FREAKS of the newgrounds art forum think about these upcoming changes and what they can mean for the internet art sphere as a whole.

This seems to be one of those weird issues that on paper looks to only effect porn artists trying to make their living off of fringe NSFW work. I'm in the freedom of expression camp to some extent and seeing this doesn't make me feel happy about losing weirdo shit as the "certain fringe sexual fetish topics" line is way too far reaching.

You could just still use Tumbler/Deviant art/ ect without the porn for example. But because it's DeviantArt this makes it kinda weird considering what sort of stuff gets uploaded there. (Lest NG throw stones we get that stuff here too: Example)

A question that comes up as well is: "How are they going to sort through the mountain of diapers?"

A possible answer is using an AI algorithm to detect crinkly feet and people getting punched in the gut until they cum and vomit.

Newgrounds has been trying to take their NSFW bridal off for quite some time moving away from porn ads and the like so it seems if there's another mass migration again, this place might be even smeller than it is already.

I for one want to see this site collapse under the fat expanded asscheeks of a huge futanari wolf goddess, but others might not agree.

Still holding hope for the "NG but it just has Patreon" option where people can just support who they like naturally with monthly donations on Newgrounds so they don't have to leave the site to other places (Probably just going to bring in tons of hungry porn artists, but at least some of that money would go to NG right?) rather than having artists fish their projects for NG money.

"But porn side of the site will hurt bank transactions!" And yet subscribestar and other places still work somehow? I don't know who they do their banking through but it must be something whacky and with the effort of NG stomping out illegal porn on the site you'd think the porn thing still wouldn't be an issue but I guess it is ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Supporting creative endeavors seems like a decent idea on paper if the benefit is one of philanthropic nature. In this case of Newgrounds supporting a salad fingers episode and the project's support being Tom's final say of where the money goes feels better than the the idea of a group of rich people on Newgrounds being denoted as "The ones with actual money" creating a new caste of users that people pleasers cozy up to in hopes of hand outs for projects.

This isn't to say that people shouldn't spend their money where they want, but saying that people's intents are purely charity based 100% of the time is dubious at best. Some people want to be known as "Mr.MoneybagsNG" but there are those who also want to be "Mr.ExecutiveProducer" as well and giving them a platform to influence people with NG can lead to some bad situations if they don't stay on the straight and narrow with that influence so giving these people visibility just seems like asking for trouble.

The heart of this idea seems to be good, but in practice may need some tinkering for clarity and for how it's presented. I personally wouldn't want to see the front page post showing that "Financially Responsible Gang" funded Yandere Simulator 2: the stripped panties of legend. I'd prefer knowing that it was the Newgrounds community, the "wang tang gang" and Newgrounds who gave the big thumbs up to the funding of a Newgrounds approved project.

Having a process that people could put their projects up for sponsorship wouldn't hurt either (Something streamlined beyond bombarding Tom with dms) so the asking of funds would happen more behind the scenes rather than in public at the feet of a select few ;)

And why wouldn't those with money already be supporting things anyway? Really makes one wonder.

Alright So this week's picks are kinda all over the place, Chips MeowDance shouldn't have beat out Worry Cat or Top and RabRab. Planet of the babes was gonna stand at the top no matter what due to it's quality and it having the Oneyplay fan backing. And Top and Rabrab shouldn't have been place in 5th behind Brewstew's storytime animator content @p-bot should be scrapped and used an expensive coffee table.

Basically an animation pilot by itself and at a running time +7 minutes deserves to be higher on the list. I personally put it here as this stuff is a bit more uncommon that all the "youtuber" animated content people already make for youtube. (See todays #7 and 8 for more ytanimated conetnet)

Planet of the babes slaps. Sure there's a lot of "clickbait booba" or whatever but considering the quality of the jokes and decent animation it still deserves to be higher up.

Worry cat is a music video made entirely by Literalhat for their "ratinthemachine" Project. Which is surprising decent work for being pushed out in 8 days .Artistically it beats out Planet in the babes, but another "We live in a Society and pay rent dude" message being repeated over and over again is just the constant choir of the animator writer these days.

Chips go woah is a great illustrator and it's interesting to see him do some animation. But should this have been placed above an 8 minute long full cartoon, and a 3 minute long music video? No. But that's just how it b fr fr no cap p-bot out of pocket for this one smh

As soon as you hear NO COPYRIGHT MUSIC "HIdden Agenda - Kevin Macleod" you know it's jover. Youtuber voiceover Storytime "animation" stuff kind of places this really low for me, but it should not have been higher than Top and RabRab - Player Three.
