Thank you for sharing the news, Tom. Even if it is news we never wish to receive about our own, it is comforting to know we all still matter even after our candle goes out. The light of life spreads to those we knew, and those we connect with before our time is up. The same is true for him. The comments in this thread prove as much.

May his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.

Amazing that you finished the entire project in a single day.

What inspired this idea? And what did you learn from making it? Any thoughts now that it's done?

Howdy friends! Stanpai here with just some random thoughts about the voiceover scene on NG currently.

Right now, it feels to me like there's no shortage of talent but the people making cartoons aren't actually plugged into that pool of talent. Animators need to be willing to do a little extra work in finding the right person for their cartoons or, better yet, need to start working with a casting director. Most NG projects are unpaid opportunities so this sounds like a whole lot of extra work, but at least in the case of large collaboration projects like the FF7, Smash, and Toonami Collabs, this could go a long way. Actors need to put in the effort too.

I remember spending years working very hard to try and get into stuff as an actor. I still do so in the real world, as opposed to the more creative and fun side of Newgrounds. I think actors should be doing more to get themselves out there, but also think animators need to start caring a bit more about having not the same people voicing everything.

Aside from getting more people engaged here on the forum, what do you all think is the right move? How can we recharge the NG Voice community in a way that isn't a big circlejerk?

Response to: Newgrounds Font & Site Updates Posted June 1st, 2022 in NG News

Hey Tom!

It looks like the scout feature on the Art portal has been removed, or at least hidden. I personally always took a lot of pride in finding people off of the site and bringing them here, and used to use the Scout page as part of my way to sweeten the deal.

Are there any plans to bring it back?

Newgrounds is an island amid a sea of conquered continents that has managed to remain true to itself thanks to steadfast management and culture. I cannot speak to the analytics of the site over time, but I know that many very talented people, very creative people, very passionate people, find a foothold here. They find a place that allows for properly expressing themselves, connecting with likeminded creators, and having hope of seeing the things they make with their passion over profits mentality actually achieve success. It's the reason I chose Newgrounds as the place for where I wanted to host a virtual festival.

Thank you for enabling me to enable others, and for giving us all a home to nurture our talents and inspire those who will come after.

Seeing as I can't quite send a DM until you accept my friend request, I figured I'd make my intent known.

Here are some projects with some of my English voice samples to give you an idea:

Phantom Blood - Until We Eternally Rest (Part 1)

Dracula - Audiobook Narration

Here's a link to a recent demo as well, so you can get an idea of my more recent recording quality.

Would be happy to discuss further in DMs.

I don't think there's much need to worry about hurting the summer fest with your contest. I'd be happy to include mention of it during the festival as well to help with promotion!

At 5/10/21 03:10 PM, Stanpai wrote:A New Community Event Approaches!

Hey, everyone! Stanpai here.

The ongoing Newgrounds Renaissance has been a chance for Newgrounds users new and old to discover their creative side and, more importantly, that this website is still a home for creatives to make their mark on the internet. With the recent success of events like Pico Day and the Art Office Hours, I want to keep that momentum going with a brand new virtual event.

Introducing the Newgrounds Summer Festival!

What is it?
The Newgrounds Summer Festival is a virtual event where attendees will be able to watch panels covering the various kinds of content available on Newgrounds, learn about Newgrounds history and culture, and build up a greater relationship with the community. This means learning from your peers and of course, building valuable connections with your fellow Newgrounds users.

How does it work?
Selected panelists will be given their own timeslot to present their panels just like at a normal convention. In addition, there will also be spaces for attendees to network and share their work. The event will be coordinated via Discord, with SFW panels being broadcast via livestream on the Newgrounds Festivals YouTube Channel.

What kind of panels are planned?
The main goal is to feature panels that cover any of the main four following categories:
-Animation
-Game Development
-Audio
-Art

In addition, I would also love to see panels that cover Newgrounds Culture & History. If you have a cool idea for a panel that covers content like this, or something you think is worth hosting a panel about, please do not hesitate to apply! Even if your panel idea doesn't cover one of the things listed above, that doesn't mean it can't still be put into the schedule!

Why are you doing this?
Newgrounds has always been a home to me and countless others over the years. Though many of us have come and gone, we always end up back on the portal eventually. With this new wave of activity and interest in Newgrounds, there hasn’t been a better time to continue building up the most powerful site on the internet.

As for why me in particular, I have been working as convention & conference staff at events throughout the Southeast US since around 2014, and have been hosting panels at conventions for even longer. I know how these things are operated and I know how to make sure this event will go smoothly. I want to use my experience in this field to make a meaningful event that gives back to the community that helped raise me.

When is it?
I'm tentatively looking at the weekend of June 25th, giving us a lead-time of a month and a half to gather panelists and prepare a core team to help make it happen. This date is not yet set in stone, so please stay tuned for updates in the near future.

How can I get involved?
Just as Newgrounds is all about Everything by Everyone, so too is this event only possible through everyone's shared efforts. We'll need panelists and event staff to keep the ship running smoothly. There are also some other cool opportunities to get involved described below, so please take a look!

If you would like to host a panel, please fill out the Panel Application Form.
If you would like to volunteer as event staff, please fill out the Staff Application Form.

If you’d like to contribute creative assets for the event, such as promotional art or otherwise, please contact me directly here on Newgrounds. Be sure to include some examples of your work!

If you upload something to the portal related to the event, tag it with #NGSummerFest2021

If you are interested in hosting some sort of contest or offering prize-support as part of the NGSF, please feel free to reach out via DM.

If you have any additional ideas or comments you’d like to share, please feel free to leave them in the comments or shoot me a DM!

Some important details:

Due to the adult nature of Newgrounds humor and culture (see: Tankmen), direct access to the event’s server will require age verification. SFW panels may be viewed by anyone via the external livestream. Thank you for your understanding.

That's all for now! Please be sure to leave your thoughts, comments and so on in the replies.
-Stanpai

I've never attended a con (or anything similar) before let alone hosted a panel, I was considering applying for an art panel. What kind of things should we talk about during a panel showcase? I saw it's required to be around an hour or so long, and I'm not sure what I would talk about besides what my art is and such.

We aren't looking for personal exhibitions for panel (with some exceptions, like if Krinkles hosted a Madness panel because of its impact on NG culture). Instead we are looking for educational discussions or workshops, fan panels covering NG content, or some sort of creative idea. I suggest looking at panel schedules from your local conventions online for inspiration.

Not likely to approve panels that are just "Hey look at my stuff".

If you have a game or something to showcase, keep an eye out for the gamedev showcase application.

If it's something else, DM me about it.

When submitting poems, try to keep them short and sweet, something that can be read in 15-30 seconds. Haikus are a great fit for this kind of format. Can't wait to see what you all will contribute!
