Best of August 2025!

What an exhilarating end to the summer! We played a bunch of great games thanks to the GMTK Jam, celebrated our 24th annual Clock Day, got a new episode of Psycho Essence, saw the return of ParagonX9 and enjoyed lots of other goodies like new Castle Crashers Portraits.

Throughout August work continued behind the scenes and this week we’ll be rolling out our age verification system for UK users, to address the requirements of the UK Online Safety Act.

As of now there should be no public-facing or moderator pages on NG that use our old layout, as part of a broader code cleanup. Big revamps are still taking place under the hood.

August 2025 absolutely ruled in terms of submissions.

My movie highlights are:

Dinner 2 is so funny with its weird as hell animation and giant hands, the concept is also one of the most innovative I've ever heard

Diet Milk is so beautifully unhinged and I can't help but love its surreal absurdity

House is so well made and animated on a visual level that i'd genuienly consider it one of the best animated movies I've ever watched on the website.

In terms of games I just played nine to five forever and bbs clock day 2025 and I loved them, them getting monthly is even better honestly.

New castle crashers dlc on my birthday was really nice to experience, I'll try buying the dlc at some point especially because of that.

UK stuff definetly sucks but hopefully there can at least be some gain in supporter status with that

And I'll try participating in the parody jam since I can try and utilize all the flash knowledge I've learned so far for it.

With that, September is pretty cool so far and I can't wait for smiling friends S3 next month, until next monthly, later and congrats to all the winners and runner ups.

I will gladly contribute my voice to well made trash, or beauty, either one is fine by me because ART IS FOREVER!!!!

Congratulations to all the winners, and thank you to all the game devs for another excellent spread of games this month! I'm glad to see that all of my top five picks were winners this month: guess I'm not as much of an old fuddy-duddy contrarian as I thought!

Certainly got a lot of entries from the GMTK "Loop" Game Jam this month! As much as I try to not be as critical of game jam entries because they are made in such a short time limit compared to other submissions, when it comes to games like BOOTLOOP and Nine to Five Forever being so good as to stand above everything else despite that, it gets confusing to say the least! These devs gotta have some sort of hyperbolic time chamber, right?

While it wasn't first place, my personal favorite entry for this month had to be A Dog That Plays Basketball by @LakenDaCoda. A lot of joke/gag games use the fact that they are a joke game to not take it seriously and deliver a clunky mess, but this one is not only funny, but a legit good game beyond that with interesting twists, charming dialogue and characters, and actual puzzle mechanics!

ParagonX9 coming back was something I really didn't see coming. Maybe they were waiting for the old layout to finally go away from 100% of NG pages, and now that it's their time to shine.

Fun Fact: During the cancelled in-game NG Radio test script for Tankmas 2024 (basically a semi-random script show that'd play the entire time,) the radio DJ would exclusively only introduce Chaoz Fantasy as one of the two tracks it'd switch off of. Can't beat the classics!

Personal Favourite Movie: Blood, Lead, and Octane (@sommeranimation, 18th place)

Fantastic Mad-Max style action, a fantastic rock soundtrack, a fantastically done mother-son duo, practically everything about this was fantastic from start to finish. Awesome work all around.

Personal Favourite Game: DEAD DETENTION #5 (Rescribbled) (@JackAstral, 18th place)

The original series was already top-notch, but the remaster took shit above and beyond. I strongly recommend checking out Jack's work, he's a national fucking treasure.
