Ready to tackle endless waves and get high with lots of air? Bondi’s certainly ready in this new mobile game, Bondi’s Heaps of Air! Tilt that phone side to side to get that sweet angle so you can rocket that flight board into the sky! It’s gonna keep getting faster, so be ready to fly!

PROTIP: Give the game a few seconds to save a high score and don't quit immediately. You don't want to lose your bragging rights!

Controls: With your smartphone or tablet facing you, turn it like a steering wheel to tilt Bondi back and forth and get lots of hang time! Be careful though, Bondi's angle can't be too far off from the waves she's riding especially when she lands.

Thanks so much to @Stepford and the donors for putting on the Newgrounds Mobile Game Jam. We were waiting in anticipation for this one for a while!

very interesting game, with a very cute girl as the protagonist, good graphics, a nice intro movie and a very interesting surfing game in it!

i tried to tilt her while playing on a PC, but it sadly doesnt work...
you should port this game into a PC version too, which keyboard+mouse controls, imho.

this game could also use some collectibles, achievements and upgrades for the player character, so that she can make bigger jumps, or to have a better handling of each wave that she rides, more stamina, etc etc

all in all, a great game, which i would love to play on a PC mode.
keep up the good work!

Thank you so much for giving this such a thorough play. We just might revisit the basic gameplay idea as part of something bigger (which would have PC controls) and we're always working on expanding beyond our arcade instincts, so we definitely hear you in terms of collectibles and other niceties. Thanks for being encouraging cause we are always working on it. Like Bondi here, we're just heading to the right under a blue sky forever. :)

Great game! It's cute when she goes back swimming! :)

KittyhawkMontrose responds:

Thank you! I had fun animating that, especially the cute gasp. 😄

First off, I've got to say that's the dopest preloader I've seen in forever.

On to the game itself, though, I dig it! The song fit the atmosphere, and the artwork was great. I felt like a lot of care went into that intro cutscene especially.

Once I was on the water, I clicked with the gameplay pretty quickly. A little part of me wishes there was more to do (i.e. collectibles or upgrades), but I think the real beauty here is in the simplicity. Plus, the waves are spaced apart just far enough that I never felt like there was a lack of engagement. The gameplay is tricky enough that I don't think anyone will survive too long and get bored, anyway.

I do wish there was a full screen button, though. I'm playing on Chrome, and a decent chunk of the top, bottom, and right-hand side of the screen were eaten up by the browser.

All in all, fun little game with cute art!

KittyhawkMontrose responds:

Glad you had fun with our little game! And really happy you like the preloader. :D Thanks for playing!

Unfortunately, I can't play this on my windows tablet despite accelerometer working on it. It gets stuck at the loading screen saying I need to turn on accelerometer permissions. ThinkPad tablet 10, running Firefox on windows 11.

Edit: Checked the page for testing the orientation sensor and it works correctly on edge but not Firefox. Even so, the game doesn't work on edge for some reason. It does say though that typeof DeviceOrientationEvent.requestPermission !== 'function' so maybe that's why it's not working?

KittyhawkMontrose responds:

[Edit 01] Thank you so much for playing around! It definitely looks as if Firefox is out. On many tablets it seems to treat itself as the "desktop" version and ignore GPS, accelerometers, gyroscopes etc. There don't seem to be any workarounds, but, if you'll indulge us, maybe we can get somewhere with Edge! When you say, "the game doesn't work" with Edge, do you mean you the game reports that you don't have accelerometers or that the game starts but you can't control it? If it's the latter, can you try a few different orientations (screen 90 degrees to the earth, screen parallel with the earth, "upside-down", etc.)? If Bondi moves at all in any position it might help track down what's different than stock Android. Speaking of, obviously don't install it just for this, but have you tried something like Brave? Again, thank you for helping us bring the game to more than just iOS and Android.

Sorry about your having issues. Sometimes on some hybrid systems Firefox doesn't forward the accelerometer readings (the code checks for non-zero values). If you don't mind can you DM me your tablet model and try another browser? Also does this test page work for you: https://chrishewett.com/blog/device-orientation-test-page/ ? Thanks for letting us know! We want to make it playable for as many configurations as possible! :D

Alas, it's barely playable on my Android phone. Graphics are great and idea if ok. It responds to accelerometer, but initial horisontal position is wrong and somewhat differs each time - for example you need to hold phone at 45 degree to have the girl stay straight.

KittyhawkMontrose responds:

Thank you for that feedback! Can you DM me your phone details, like make and model, so maybe we can look into that. Glad you like the graphics and the idea!
