Understanding Near Field Communication (NFC)

Near Field Communication (NFC) is a short-range wireless connectivity technology that allows data exchange between devices within close proximity of 20 centimeters or less. NFC technology is based on RFID and operates at 13.56 MHz, enabling communication between NFC-enabled devices through magnetic field induction. NFC has applications in areas like mobile payments, ticketing, data sharing, and device pairing and can be used to download content, exchange business cards, and make mobile payments at point-of-sale terminals with just a touch. The future of NFC is promising with projections of one in five phones including NFC by 2013 and the global transaction value exceeding $75 billion.

Introduction to NFC

NFC is one of the latest wireless communication technologies. As a short-range wireless connectivity technology, NFC offers safe yet simple and intuitive communication between electronic devices. Enables the exchange of data between devices over a distance of up to 20 centimetres. NFC-enabled devices can simply point or touch their making application and data usage easy and convenient.

How NFC Works

NFC is based on RFID technology that uses magnetic field induction to enable communication between electronic devices in close proximity. NFC operates at 13.56 MHz For two devices to communicate using NFC, one device must have an NFC reader/writer and one must have an NFC tag. The tag is essentially an integrated circuit containing data, connected to an 8/12/12 77 antenna, that can read and written by the
