Student Transition Management Plan

This document outlines Marian Stauder's group management plan for walking students to class. The plan includes preparing the classroom, setting clear expectations for student behavior, getting students' attention before walking to class, and individually managing any problem behaviors. Success is evaluated by students meeting all expectations like walking calmly and staying with the group to ensure a smooth transition to the next class. The teacher will observe students and reflect on how well the system supports the main goal of an orderly transition.

Marian Stauder Group Management Plan (I should have given this to you earlier) Preparation: I make sure that

an opening activity is ready for the students when they get to the room. I also make sure that one of the other teachers is in the classroom. Target Behaviors: -students walk to class -students stay with the class -students ask the teacher if they wish to go somewhere (get a drink, bathroom, locker). -students will keep a reasonable noise level (talking, but no shouting) Getting the Students Focused: When I come to the cafeteria, a cafeteria supervisor tells Ms. Marshalls class to line up, using a microphone. To get the students focused, all I really need to do is stand in front of them and wait until all eyes are on me. When students figure out we arent moving, they look up and quiet down. Instructional Delivery After clarifying expectations if necessary (make sure you walk) and giving a brief introduction to whats coming next (when you get to the classroom, start on your bellringer), I cue the first student to walk towards the classroom. Individual and Group Management Prevention: Teacher makes sure expectations are clear and that all instructions have a reason to avoid frustration; the rules are only good if the students understand them. Also, students who walk to class well occasionally get a Starburst (This happens about once a week. I rarely distribute to the whole class because it turns disruptive and is no longer reinforcing). Managing Problem Behaviors: Inappropriate behaviors are met with immediate consequences upon entering the classroom (reset, chill, or detention, according to the current system in place in that class). Evaluation or Progress: Since the environment is very informal, success will be measured by the correct completion of all expectations listed above. I will make sure I can see all students to observe if they are in fact walking, keeping voices at a reasonable level, and staying with the group. Because the main goal is getting students to smoothly transition to class, the system will also be evaluated based on how well students transition to the first few minutes of class. Reflection to come. (I plan to turn it in as a replacement to a journal entry.)
