Seek and Find Task 10 & Rubric
(Using the internet and other media to find information and create presentations)
TaskStudents will have 4 separate periods to use the Internet, search engines, and books and textbooks to locate information for building their car and presenting a budget. Library specialist will have bookmarked websites through the World Wide Web, sites pertaining to simple machines, force, and motion for the students to use for their research. One lesson will have the library specialists demonstrate how to access the web sites. A second lesson, students will have a demonstration on how to use Excel to record data and create graphs. In the third lesson, the students will have access to math and science periodicals along with the textbooks, Science Interactions textbook-Grade 7 and Passports (math text)-Grade 7, to help set up a budget and calculate costs and profits. Students will work in their roles, but will focus on research and finding useful information. The final period students will also have time to begin their PowerPoint for their presentation.
The students will be assessed to see if they were able to successfully demonstrate the following skills by accessing either a site, run a program, use books to locate information, and begin to use PowerPoint. This is a basic introduction. They will be using these skills throughout the unit. Library and Technology Rubric Student can: access the world wide web and find information create a simple spread sheet that can perform at least one operation. use indexes of books to see if the book is useful to their research. create a presentation on PowerPoint with at least 3 slides.
