Amal's Leadership and Caring Growth

Amal helped the teachers last month by assisting less experienced peers with wudu and prayers. During a picnic, Amal ensured her sister Najma had her hat and jacket on and fetched her a bottle when thirsty. Amal also passed rubbish to friends when they finished snacks without being asked. The teacher recognized Amal's maturity and caring leadership skills, as she took responsibility for herself, her sister, and friends. Amal is a confident problem solver who asks questions and shares her point of view. The teacher wants to develop Amal's leadership abilities further by having her lead dua before meals and teach younger students.

Child: Amal Date: 6th August 2013 Written by: Teacher Natasha Last month Amal, Teacher Maysoon,

Teacher Bushra and I noticed you enjoy helping the teachers. We also noticed your caring nature extended to your peers and younger children when you helped your less experienced peers learn how to make wadu and do the prayers. This morning was no different! We decided this unusually sunny winter day would be a great opportunity to have a picnic once you had clarified what we meant by picnic you eagerly asked, Teacher, Teacher can I help? What should I do? During the picnic you sat next to sister Najma, ensuring she had her warm hat and jacket on, and fetching her bottle when she was thirsty. You carefully observed your peers and would pass the rubbish container when you noticed a friend finishing their yoghurt before they needed to ask.

Recoginising the learning

Amal I really enjoyed observing how mature you are becoming as you develop caring and leadership aspects in your personality. Today you took responsibility, not just for yourself but your sister and friends, you also demonstrated the ability to self regulate and correct based on the cues of your friends. By asking questions and expressing your point of view I can see you are a confident problem solver. Where to next? Amal your leadership abilities are becoming clearer every day, and we plan to help use these to assist in your learning. I would like to see you leading Dua before meals, as well as develop an AKO approach to school readiness sessions in which as a learner you are also teaching. In particular as we start focusing on the building blocks of reading.
