Pneumatic Valves & Cylinders Guide

The document discusses pneumatic circuits and components, focusing on 5/2 valves and double acting cylinders. It explains that a 5/2 valve has five ports and two states, directing air supply to different ports in each state. Double acting cylinders can be extended and retracted using a 5/2 valve, with the valve switching air supply from one end of the cylinder to the other. Flow regulators can control the pressure inside double acting cylinders. An example use given is testing mechanical components.

The 5/2 valve + Double Acting Cylinders

Notes

One of the basic components of amy pneumatic circuit is the the pneumatic valve. Valves are like electrical switches in that they are designed to turn something on. Valves can be used to switch on and off the main air supply.

5/2 Valves

The 5/2 valve has ve ports (holes) and is capable of changing between two states.

Unlike the 3/2 valve both states of the 5/2 valve can be considered active. When in the position shown the air supply is directed from port 1 to 4. Exhaust air is directed through port 2 to port 3.

When the spool is in its other position the compressed air supply is directed through port 1 to port 2. Exhaust air is directed though port 4 to port 5.
