Understanding Blood: Functions and Donation

The document discusses the components and functions of blood. Blood is made up of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets, each with distinct characteristics and roles. Red blood cells lack a nucleus and transport oxygen and carbon dioxide, white blood cells have a nucleus and protect the body from infection, and platelets lack a nucleus and help blood clot. There are four main blood groups - A, B, AB, and O - and different compatibility between donor and recipient blood groups. Blood donation is important as millions need blood transfusions each year to stay alive. Donated blood must be properly handled and stored under temperature control.
