Support NZ's Oldest Animal Charity

The SPCA is New Zealand's oldest animal welfare charity, established in 1883. It receives less than 2% of its funding from the government, with the majority coming from public donations, bequests, and fundraising events. In addition to rescuing cats and dogs, the SPCA cares for other companion animals, native wildlife, and livestock. It lobbies for changes to cruel practices and operates an enforcement team to police animal offenses. The SPCA also runs numerous community support programs across New Zealand to educate the public and support animal welfare. It acts as an advocate for animals and investigates over 13,000 complaints of neglect or cruelty each year.

We are New Zealands oldest Animal Welfare Charity.

Our frst branch was established in 1883 and weve

been protectng and caring for animals for over 125 years.

The majority of the SPCAs funding is donated by the public. We receive less than 2% of our funding from
the government. The majority of our income comes from donatons, bequests, and fundraising events like
Cupcake Day for the SPCA.

We do more than just rescue cats and dogs. We also care for and protect other companion animals,
natve animals and livestock breeds. We actvely lobby government and decision makers to change and
abolish unfair or cruel animal practces, and we operate an inspectorate of approximately 100
enforcement ofcers dedicated to policing ofences against animals.

We support the community. We have numerous community support programs running throughout New
Zealand. These programs include, at natonal level, our mobile desexing clinic and our One of the Family
in-school empathy educaton program. At a local level these include the Outreach program run in tandem
with St John, educaton programs at several SPCA Centres across the country, and the day-to-day support
our Centres ofer the public when it comes to animal care and protecton. We also work with other
welfare agencies and emergency services when called upon.

We are the animals voice in tmes of need. Our Centres receive over 13,000 animal welfare complaints
each year. Many of these complaints can be addressed on the spot by giving pet owners guidance and
informaton on how to beter care for their pets. However, when people deliberately neglect their
animals, our Inspectors have the power to seize the animal and prosecute the person for neglect or
animal cruelty.

Thank you for supporting the SPCA.
