DASHA SYSTEMS
Alter finishing our carlier sessions .an:reading through each
house, and analysing through Vargas, the nextiimportant Ieeson is on
Dasha. Dasha system has been enunciated.for the purpose of timing
an event for any particular horoscope. There are many dasha systems
prevailing in Hindu Astrology, the five, most important amongst them is
Vimshotari Dashd, -Ashtottari Dasha, Kala Chakra Dasha, Yogini
Dasha and Navamsha Dasha, Jaimini’s System of Chara Dasha and
Sthir Dasha are also considered now for thé purpose of analysing the
horoscope, Earlier, Jaimini system of astrology was used for the
purpose of specific events in: Mundane Astrology sand Astro-
metereology only. Slhira Dasha was used | particularly for analysing
12th
Jongevity or Arishla in a birth chart.’ That is why, 6th, §
Jord ie. Rudra, Meheshwara_and Brahma play an important role in
Jaimini Dasha System. Now Jaimini Dasha is gaining popularity and’
is used as a parallel system ofDasha for co-relating the day-to-day.

Vimshottari Dasha: Here we are considering only the most
popular method of analysing the horoscope, from dasha point of view.
The word Vimshottari is derived from the words ‘Vimshamy’ and ‘Uttar?
i.e. 20 more than 100 (shati). So the life of a native as per Hind system
has a span of 120 years. It is another matter that Lord Krishna.tived for
126 years, but according to Hindu Mythology and belie’ it is
considered that a person lives for {120 | years -inaximum or the
maximum Life span of an individual is 120 years. This 120 years have!
been divided amongst the 9 planets ‘forming various span of life for
different planets. The grand total of the dasha period will come to 120
years. Starting from Sun,
ritikadhi Nakehatra, (since the first
nakshatra cited on the eastern horizon was Kritika), ancientastrologers, saints and rishis divided the | time period of $20 years
amongst the 9 planets ie. Sun, Moor Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn,
Mercury, Ketu and Venus. Krittika was treated as the first nakshatra.
The logical reason for starting from Krittika could be because Sun is in
the centre of the solar system and all planets revolve round the Sun
‘after recent developments, may be 2000 oF 3000 years before, Ashwini
and Bharani was a ded before Krittika. Even now most. astrologers use
Krittika for following astrological principles. Keittika is ruled py Sun
and Sun has 6 years in Vimshottari Dasha System. After Sun, it is
Moon for 10 years, followed by Mars for'7 years, then Raku for 18
years, Jupiter for 16 years, Saturn for 19 years, Mercury for 17 years,
Ketu for 7 years and Venus for 20 years: What is the secret behind
this? Different ways of allottifng span of years for cach planet is
not clearly known. Sun being the prime planet gets only 6 yeats.
Venus being the servant of Sun controls all the enjoyments and
materialistic pleasures on carth (Bhoolokam}, and gets the maximum
of 20 years, probably since it is known as papa loka we are more
concerned about our enjoyments andy comforts in life. Hence Venus
must have got 20 years. It isa logical guess but not a classical one,
Dasha Systems were enunciated Keeping in view three basic
principles. For any event to fructify, it should heve three basic
qualities. First, i
hecbasic promise in the horoscope ‘ynere should
be a basic promise in the horoscope, the chart should convey the
necessary promise, which we are trying to predict oF foresee.
Secondly, @ conducive Dasha System i.c. Dasha should come at @ proper
time and proper place so that the fructification of the result, i.e. the
promise in the horoscope aS per the prime condition should be
fulfilled. ‘Thirdly, the transit. Favourable transit along, with conducive
dasha with promise in the horoscope shall be the clinching factor for

promise, conducive dasha and favourable transit.
If there is no basic promise in the horoscope put there is avery
good favourable fiesha and very positive transit running for native,
then a he may pttain the desired goals with great difficulty and to
some extent jonly i.e. his achievement will not be to his full
satisfaction, théugh for others it may look Tike a great achievement.
But if favourable dasha is not there, but there is a basic promise iD
the horoscope and also there is a positive transit period, a person by
doing proper propitiation or dosha pariharas can

and attain the desired success in his life to @ large extent. Thirdly, fan
unfavourable transit is coming, but there is & basic promise and
favourable dasha, then one is advised to stay pul OF slow down all his
activities, postpone or defer his future plans, 6° that when conducive
dasha and transit comes, he can be asked to take advantage of it. This
swaiting’ should not be done onlMfar the purpose of passing time, But
one should always be asked todo Japa, Homa, Mantra or Puja, visit
holy places, observe fas

intellect gets bala or strengthened. On the whole, if all the three
above basic factors are favourable, a person's growth and success will
not be hindered and will be lasting. So far.for analysing the horoscope
these three factors have to be kept in mine in order (0

Dasha System is to be seen with regard to the following 10
principles:

Gth, 8th or 12th lord or papa grahas or sandwitched between papa
grahas or fosing in planctary war or losing strength in the basic chart

and Antardasha tords’ from the 10H. If they are placed in the 6th,
Sth or 12th from the, 10H and associated with Pape grahas like
Rahu, Ketu, Saturn, the native may do papa karmas and Jand himself
in great trouble during bad dashas. Likewise, the position of planets
from the 10H is to be seen. The Garba Shista planets is to be scen if
they are in Kendras and gct associated with Yogakcaraka, a person will
have unhindered progress, will be envied by his own brothers, sisters
and may also become at some point of time the bone of contention
between his co-borns. Now the planct’s strength is to je analysed
before commenting upon any results.
The above results of Garba Shista plancts, from the Lagna,
Lagna Lord, 5H, 10H which are the four main analysing factors in &
horoscope has to be clearly done by Keeping in view the above

the next step will be to analyse the lagna and the lagna lords
Lagna and Lagna Lofd has to be analysed from Dasha and Antardashe
lords. Dasha of Kendra and Kona from any bhava, particularly konas
indicate success and achievement for that particular bhava, Het us take
the dasha of 6th house. We may say it is bad, but for the 2nd house the
6H happens to be a Kona. Being a Kona, it indicates success for the 2H
i.e. Kutumba Sthana, wealth - GH indicates service. We can see if there
is a. promotion in service or rise in salary; is there @ court case going on;
is there a dispute involved; or is there a possibility of winning in
Jotteries - everything comes from the GH only. For 2H, GH te a Kona
and for the 3H it isa Kendra - may indicate success through self
efforts. Likewise, for any bhava Kona indicates success. If the Kona,
Jords are well placed, associated with the Yoga. Karaka of the birth chart
and establishes connection with Lagna or Lagna Lord, success is
indicated, During the course of any dasha/antardasha, only when there
sea connection of Lagna or lagna Lord achievements can be predicied,
since Lagna/LL. indicate] self. If instead of Lagna/LL, SH/3L is getting,
connected, success for brothers or co-borns can be pi edicted

body also grows or deteriorates. This basically means that there are
some subtle or minute changes in our body everyday. ‘This is also seen
in Medhini where the tides rise and fall as per Moon’s position. Likewise

concerned with our body and bodily strength. So any disease or mental
ailment or physical suffering can be attributed to Moon’s position or
Moon's dispositor as he also takes on the responsibility of our body. Se
the position of Mahadasha and Antardasha Jord should be carefully
analysed to know about any kind of bodily ailment oF arishta. If they are
having the aspect bf Yogakaraka or association of Lagna Lord or Sun,
the ailment even if it is prevailing may whither out after the arishta
Antardasha is over. The position is to be further secn In p-9 and D-3,
because any arishta or ailment is secn from D-3 for knowing, the cause
and the effect.

When bhava is to be analysed in respect of Mahadasha and
Antardastia Lord, one has to see the particular house from the bhava. If
one has to see about education (which has two versions), some
astrologers say that it has to be seen from the Sth bhava whereas old
classics and rishis maintain that education has to be seen from the 4th
bhava, Since Sth house shows about education, inclination towards
studies, probably the modern astrologers used the Sth bhava for

tivlihood or living standards, If the bhava lord is afflicted or if the 4H
from the bhava lord is weak, one will not be able to use education
for his own benefit, There are lot many cases where highly
qualified people are lowly placed in their fe and they are not able {0
enjoy their own earnings for rising their living standards itself because
the bhava lord ie. 4th from 4th gets afflicted heavily.
The native may improve after some time when the Dasha or
‘Amtardasha changes and the dasha inust be well placed from the
phavadhipathi, One may be well educated but may not be very well

analysed ina similarfashion as one will analyse the bhava lord or bhava.
Karaka plays thd prime most important role for the whole of the dasha
period. If the kar}
gets afflicted ie. (1) if placed in 6,8,12 from
Lagna, (2) if he isin 6,8,12 from the bhava, then is losing strength as
far as the bhava is concerned; (3) he will be afflicted if associated with
debilitated planet or eclipsed or set there in 6 different ways - in
planctary war, associated with inimical planets, in papa-Irartari yoga;
or himself debilitated, associated with debilitated planet; placed in
inimical sign or losing strength in navamsha; then the promise that .
is otherwise shown in the horoscope gets diminished to a
considerable extent due to karaka’s own position. If Karaka does not
have good strength as far ‘as Mahadasha lord is concerned then
interaction between Ikarala and Mahadasha Jord, gets lost are
consequent results will not be to the}dosirable level of-the-native or
the promise in the horoscope. But one has to keep in mind transitory
positions also if otherwise due to transit’s better position, if native’s
benefic points can be enhanced, one should try to educate him to that
level and bring the maximum benefit from that situation. Karaka if

concerned. Whereas if they gain strength in navamsha, they get
immense power to overcome all difficulties and hurdles and confer upon
the native benefic or happy results in duc time. Navamsha is to be seen
as per their placement, their associations ana the sign where they are
placed, i.e. the sign that they are placed in the navamsha should
indicate a benefic bhava in the Rashi Chart to give the planet, bhava or
karaka enough strength in D-9. A better way to look at the navamsha
position is to superscribe the navamsha placement on the D-t chart and
analyse from the D-1 lagna only to look at the strength of the planet or
karaka concerned.
ix) Strength in Vargas: YeBach planet, karaka or, bhavadhipati, should be .able to enjoy
immensely or fait’ good strength in the concerned/varga chart, for which
analysis are going to be carried out Suppose we are analysing
emancipation or attainment of yoga shakti, or mantra shakti or
oneness with God, we have to analyse the Vimsamsha or chatur-
yimsamsha along] with D-1 gnd D-9 chart and sce the position of
saturn, Jupiter 4nd Venus for confirming the position in regard to
becoming a cult figure or for gelf-emancipation or developing his own
style of practices in this janma. i.e. if Jupiter and Venus are well
connected, in the D-24 chart, ie. chaturtho- imsamsha or in D-20.
Venus enjoys great powers along with Ketu, the mystic planet for
giving a planet intuitive powers and fore-warning capacities, then @
person will have good associations in these aspects of life, Otherwise
association of Ketu is not considered good for any kind of analysis.
But for this purpose it is considered to be good if Jupiter, Venus, Ketu
and Saturn have co-telation. We have to see the planet concerned in
each varga to know the exact position for that particular matter, If'we
are looking at a horoscope about a person building his own empire, oF
building his own concerns, we have 10 analyse the chaturtamsha
along with Mars and Saturn. Likewise, we have to keep sceing the
particular varga for a particular event that lord along with that| Dasha
lord and gaining strength, that dasha will be beneficial to bim XY
x) Placement of
Jahadasha and Antar/tasha Lo spect of each
other's position:
No Mabadasha and Antardasha lords should be placed in 6-8
axis in D-1, D-9 or any other varga concerned. If so, itfindicates
obstructions, failures, etc. in regard to that particular event. 2°12 axis is
also not considered good as for as achievements abe © neerned. One
Bmey not achieve the desired goal in his life, Even if he achieves
something, it may not be to hig desired level. 3-11 axis is consider ed
to the best placement in regard to Mahadasha and Antardasha lords.
If so, success much beyond his expectations is assured. 4-10 is
another benefic position for Mehadasha and ‘Antardasha lord to be in.
During the initial period the native my not get any success, but
later on one will detitety come up and achieve the desired success: 59
position is a neutral position, sometimes not good, becuase it is
considered as @ dosha as Sth in the 7H, 7th in the 9H, sth in the 9th
house or 9th in the Sth house as far as basic charts are concerned. The
same principle is extended for the Mahadasha ‘and Antardasha also. So
the position of 5-9 if they are associated with benefics or in any Wey
gotting strength, will not fructify. 1-7 axis is also considered to be
neutral, It will give good results if there are malefic planets in 1-7
axis, but if they are benefics and are exalted, in ow? house or associated
with LL or Yogakaraka, they may not be able to produce geod results.
‘The position is to be further analysed in the varga chart and the D-9
chart to know the exact position of the Mahadasha and Antardasha. lord
in respect of confering results upon the native. Any person's
achievement capacity, moral character is to be seen from 1-30. For
achievement in life, one has to have & good moral character t
supplement his achievement qualities in He. So in 19- 30}the position of
Lagna Lord, Mahadasha and Antardasha lord, Yogakaraka of D-}y
Moon’s position and Moon’s diSpositor have to be seen. If they are all
well placed, connected to good bhavas, & person’s earnings will be
permanent, Also position of Mars is to see in a horoscope to see the
staying capacity of any achievement, his 27 nings or luxuries, If Mars is
not well placed from the LL, Moon, Moon's dispositor, Yogalvaralea,
Garba Shishta Balance planets, Mahadasha lord or the currently
running Mahadasha Lord, @ person’s earnings will never stay with him.

In Hindu Astrology, Rahu & Ketu have been given great
importance. These two nodes of Moon, though physically non-existent
are yet regarded and treated as fullsledged planets ‘A knowledge of
Rahu and Ketw ojited from ancient times. Rau is known a8 the
Dragon’s Head anit Ketu as the Dragon’s Tail. Head is forward looking
and hence represents future, while the tell represents the past. The
position of Rahu represents the qualities to be developed and work to
be done during the present janma and the position of Ket shows the
qualities developed during past lives and thus indicates attitudes that
come naturally to the native. They are classified as Karmic planets. The
qualities represented by the dispositors of Rahu and Ketu are
significantly found to be manifesting in natives. A planet in conjunction
with Rahu or Ketu has special significance jn selaltion to the things
signified by these planets. Well posited Rahu or Ket with \pnencficiat
connections and aspects rise the native (0 dizzy heights in life. No other
planet can be compared to Rabu and Ketu in this respect. According to
Hindu Astrology both Rahu & Ketu are malefics but Ket is considered
to be spiritual and is the Moksha Karaka, Rahu is more earthly
indicating mundane _prospesity. Both Rahu and Ket have @
constructive role to play in the long run ‘they make the native pass
through various phases of difficulties and sufferings and will also‘enable him to progress’ spiritually. When placed in malefic nakshatras
and conjoined with Mars or Saturn without any Denefie association,
life will be marked by misery, struggle and misunderstanding
throughout. Rabu and Ketu eclipse the sun and the Moon
representing the soul and the mind respectively. Rahu or Ketu
within 2 degree of the ascendant give an unsual type of personality
and very distinctive appearance.

fallen in Sagittarius, detrimental in Pisces and disharmony in Aries.
Ketu is exalted in Sagittarius, Ruler in Pisces, Harmonious in Aries,
fallen in Gemini, detrimental in Virgo and disharmony Libra, Rahu

Jupiter who share close friendship. Mars signifies power, sun rules
soul and Jupiter rules wisdom, A correct blend of these three leads to
liberation or moksha. Thus it is said that Ketu gives liberation and
