PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Over the past month, students have been

working on throwing and parachute
activities. For throwing, students practiced
pointing at their target using their opposite hand and
foot, then stepping to throw the ball. Students worked
with partners and as teams to try to knock down pins by
throwing the balls at them. The following week we
used the parachute for activities such as: cat and
mouse, popcorn, igloo or ripples and waves. Many of
the classes had earned their second party so they
played the game Oscar the grouch and were throwing
trash into and out of Oscars trash can. We also played
the game of turkey knock down to review throwing and
get ready for Thanksgiving! Make sure to check out our
websites for the word of the week!

MUSIC
In music this past month, the students read
different long and short rhythm patterns,
demonstrated those patterns by patting and
clapping, then wrote their own patterns with a partner.
The students worked well with their partners: they
were creative and they challenged themselves to come
up with many different patterns! The students danced
to some high-energy and some relaxing music. They also
learned Animales, a song about jungle animals sung in
Spanish and English then played maracas.
This Saturday, December 12 at 2:00, Pleviak will be
singing Christmas songs at the Round Lake Public
Library! Please check my website for more details. We
hope to see you there! At home, please have your child
keep singing, playing, and dancing to music!

ART
Students worked on a line and shape
tracing and cutting exercise before
creating a Primary Shape person! To
create their Primary Shape Person,
students drew and cut out shapes using red, blue and
yellow construction paper for the parts of the body.
Round Lake Area Schools Young Artist Exhibition took
place this month at the Cultural & Civic Center! This art
show consisted of student artwork from each school in
the district. Fifty pieces of kindergarten artwork were
chosen to be shown. It was very difficult to choose!!
Awards will be presented for Best in Show, 1st Place, 2nd
Place, 3rd Place and 3 Honorable Mentions at the
Student of the Month presentation this month.

READING/WRITING LAB
We learned a lot this month in the
reading/writing lab! We read A Bad Case of
Stripes, which is a silly story about a girl who
learns that its okay to be yourself, no matter
what others think. This was a student favorite! With this
story, we talked about realism and fantasy. We also
read The Very Hungry Caterpillar and learned about
sequencing (putting a story in order.) Last, we read a
story called Being Thankful and we discussed what
thankful means. Then, the students made a book to
tell what they are most thankful for. Please continue to
read to your child at home, encourage them to write or
draw pictures, and label their drawings too.
