Week One Journals
On Sunday, 21st of February 2016, it was my first day of teaching practice at Alwahda Private
School. In this school students start their school day by having a morning assembly. In the
assembly, I introduced myself to the students. Then, students attend the classroom to have the
English lesson. After, taking attendance by the teacher, I introduced myself also for students who
are KG1 students. In this day actually, I was observing my MST in the classroom. From my
observation, I think there are many interesting strategies that my MST used them for the students.
One of these strategies was asking each child about their weekend and what they did on it. I think
it is interesting because that will help children to express their feelings and thoughts. Moreover,
the teacher read for students a story. She start reading with asking students questions about the
cover page. That will help students be ready to discover what the story about. Then, she gave each
students a story to try reading by themselves. During the lesson, she used to turn on many songs
that help students dance and movements. For example, she turn on the music about letter v and
let students do a movements that help their physical side. At the end of the day, I felt that the
teacher using many strategies to support students learning, but at the same time I felt that the
teacher must apply activities that can let children engage to the lesson.
On Monday, 22nd of February 2016, it was a normal day at school. Students start their day by
having the assembly. They attend the classroom after that. The teacher let one students to take the
attendance. The students was calling the students names. They came to him to take the name card
to post it on the attendance board. She start the lesson by doing a physical movements like stand
up, sit down, jump, turn around and sit under the table to let children be active and motivated for
the lesson. The interesting strategy that I saw my MST apply it was taking students outside the
classroom to discover the features of the winter season. She asked them to feel the weather around
them. She asked them questions about what they see up on the sky and down on the ground. She
let students to feel the grass. Students were giving various answers about the winter season. They
were interesting to be outside during the lesson. I think it is a significant approach to let children
discover their environment and engage them to explore. In this day, I contribute to monitor students
in the playground. However, when the teacher was giving the students the math subject, she did
not give students activities to help them understand the lesson well. She just used the book to let
them practice writing the numbers. She did not give the whole class the book. She gave just the
half of them and the other half they were playing with cubes and coloring. At the end of the day, I
felt that it is an important to engage children to explore their surroundings.
On Tuesday, 23rd of February 2016, as usual the students attend the assembly with teachers. They
were doing a physical activities. They attend the classroom to have the English class. The teacher
start taking the attendance by calling students names to post their pictures on the board. In this day
the students were taking the letter "x" after reviewing letter "v". The teacher shows students a
video that introduce the phonics of letter "x". She taught them some words like ox, box, fox and
six with displaying the pictures. In this day, I contributed with the teacher to help and monitor
students when they were having meal time. The most interesting strategy that teacher used was let
students identify the letter "x" around the classroom to help them recognize the letter. She also
engaged children to write the number 11 on the board for the math class. She gave each child a
chance to practice writing. She let children count dots and complete drawing to have the total of
11 dots in the students book. The teacher gave me a small group of students to help and support
them to do this activity after explaining and giving instructions. At the end of the day, I felt that
students need more practice after explain the lesson by the teacher. She has to promote their
learning and assess their learning at the end of the lesson.
On Wednesday, 24th of February 2016, it was a normal day at school. At the lesson students took
the new number for the math subject. The teacher engage them to introduce the lesson be reviewing
the number 11. Then she turn on the song about the number 12. She let students count things then
shows them how to write the number. She engage to let each child write the number in the board.
After that she gave children the book to practice writing and counting to 12. I think the teacher
could engage children to do some activities to support their mathematical skills in counting instead
of focusing in the book worksheet. For the science lesson, she made a review of the winter season.
The teacher was asking the students about the weather. They were engaged to answer the teacher
questions. She let students to make the snowman as a one feature of winter. At the end of the day,
I felt that students must have different activities and materials to deal with to increase their
understanding in the mathematical concepts.
Week two Journals
On Sunday, 28th of February 2016, in the classroom the teacher start the lesson by asking students
who is absent? Students answer the teacher by counting themselves to identify the students who
are absent. She moved after that to ask children about their weekend and how they enjoy it. I think
it an important strategy to use to promote children personality and self-confidents. They will be
able to grow in the environment that support them to express feelings and aware of that someone
listen to them. That was one of the most interesting strategy that the teacher used during the day.
Its interesting to notice that I involve with the teacher in this lesson by reading the story book
about Good Morning Earth story. I read it for the half of the class. I asked students questions
about the pictures in the story. I think that I successfully teach them the concepts that include in
the story. I think that the teacher has a great impact of managing the classroom. The students were
listening and following the teachers instructions. The transitions were moving smoothly. On top
of that, the teacher asked children to identify the colors of trees in fall season by let them say the
color then bring it from the storage. I believe that is important to engage children to use materials
and identify them in the classroom. In this day, I had a short meeting with my MST to manage the
teaching lessons for this week for me. At the end of the day, I felt that the teacher talk must less
that students talk when she gave them the time to express their thoughts about their weekend.
On Monday, 29 of February 2016, after finishing the morning assembly, the students moved to
classroom. The teacher start to take the attendance in circle time. In this class, the teacher make
review about the colors, animals in Wild, farm, desert and vegetables and fruit. She let children
make a circle. They make some movements hen the teacher let them marching to move to areas on
the walls that she create them. She asked them questions and engaged them to tell her about the
pictures. I think it is an important to apply the review strategy to keep children remember what
they took in the previous lessons. For the English class, the teacher turn on Alphabetical song.
Then she reviewed the letter "e" by engaging student to learn the words "exit and enter". She let
one student go outside and say exit. Then other student open for him the door and said "enter". I
think its great idea to let children deal with actions to understand the concepts. The teacher apply
the differentiation activities for students. She let high level use the book to circle the things that
start with the letter "e" and color these things. Medium level, she let them make the letter using
the clay. For the low level, she bring the box with glitter, they write the letter on it. Therefore, I
did the differentiation take in this day. As I am a student teacher, I engaged this day to make a
review for number 13 for small group. I let children count the strawberry in the worksheet, color
the number 13 and write the number. At the end of the day, I felt that the teachers must apply the
differentiation strategy because of the variety of levels in the classroom and to promote student's
learning.
On Tuesday, 1st of March 2016, as usually students attend the morning assembly. During the
school day, its interesting to notice that I taught the whole lesson for my students at the early
morning. I taught them the summer season at the science subject. The lesson was successfully
achieved. I had a great and positive feedbacks from my MST. I applied the differentiation
activities. All students were engaged to talk and express their feelings. On top of that, about my
classroom management I think that I manage the class successfully. Students liked to deal with
real things, when I bring for them the things that they wear and use at summer like hat, sunglasses,
sandal, fan and t-shirt. However, for monitoring the students, I monitored students while they in
the playground. Moreover, when the students have the math lesson. They took the reviewing for
the number 13. The teacher let students counting and writing the number. She engaged them to
practice the song for the mother day. All students were involving to practice. They engaged to
make actions and sing the song. At the end of the day, I felt proud of myself because I received a
positive comments of my teaching.
On Wednesday, 2nd of March 2016, as usually I attended the school. In this day there was no
assembly for the students because most of the teachers are late. Therefore, I started teaching my
students a literacy at the morning. I taught them the letter j. I think that I successfully achieved the
lesson. My classroom management was success. I used many strategies to teach children the letter.
I started the lesson with a game to let children be active. Then, I taught them the sound of the
letter then engage them to write the letter. Children were involving and engaging with me at this
lesson. They followed my instructions to do the activities. After that, my MST took students to
teach them. It interesting to notice that some monitoring teachers form the school administration
comes to observe the teacher teaching. The teacher gave the students a review of the letter j. For
the math lesson, the teacher gave the students the book to do the activities for number 13 and 14.
She gave me small group of students to observe and support them while they did the activities.
The teacher in this day used interesting strategy to manage behavior. When two students fighting,
she let them with her to have a conversation with them. She decided to take them to the baby class
as a punishment. The students say to the teacher that they will not do this misbehave again. When
the time to eat their meal. My MST let me sit with them and monitored them. I think it is an
important as a student teacher to do all teacher work in the school to get an experience for the
future. At the end of the day, I felt proud and satisfy of myself because I helped students to
understand the lesson well.
Week three Journals
On Sunday, 6th of March 2016, it was a normal day at school. In this day, my MST merge KG1A with KG1-B. She introduce for the students the letter y. Students were engaging with her. She
played with them a game to help them recognize the new words like yarn and yak. She let some
students go outside the classroom, then they have to find the pictures of yak and yarn with repeating
the words. For the science class, the teacher introduce the concept of the temperature. She used to
bring and show children the real things like thermometers in different types. She did an experiment
to engage children and let them understand the concept. Students like the experiment which was
using the thermometer to measure the heat of cold water, hot and warm water. At the end of the
day, I felt that it is an important thing to engage children with experiences and doing experiment
to discover things around them.
On Monday, 7th of March 2016, as usually routine at school. I started my day with teaching the
class the number 15. I create effective introduction for the lesson. I helped students understand the
lesson. The lesson managed and done successfully because students were understanding and
involving in the lesson. In this day also the teacher spent two period practicing with students the
mother day song. For the math class, the teacher did a review for the number 13, 14 and 15. She
gave students a worksheet to let them practice the concepts. At the end of the day I felt that is an
important things to engage children with mathematical activities to develop their cognitive skills.
On Tuesday, 8th of March 2016, at the morning circle the teacher take the attendance. She engaged
students to practice for the song that they will sing it of the mother day. She did not teach students
in this day at the morning because she did for students the assessments. So, she let her assistant to
take some students to play outside and some students stay with her to test them. I involve to assess
some students. I think it was a great experiences because it was my first time to have an assessment
for children. When, I finish assessing my group, I went outside to monitor students playing in the
playground. Moreover, in this day, one of the students mother made a birthday party for her child.
The students liked the party. It helped them to change the routine and have fun with singing and
eating cake. At the end of the day, I felt that is an important as a students teacher to do what the
teacher do like assessing students.
On Wednesday, 9th of March 2016, my MCT came to school to monitor and evaluate my teaching.
I was teaching letter y for KG1. I was prepare for the lesson. I used many strategies that support
my lesson and students learning. The lesson achieved successfully. There was managing for the
classroom and time. The students were responding to me because I used effective transition
strategies and supportive activities. My MCT gave me positive comments as well as she liked my
teaching and my strategies. However, she mentioned some weaknesses that I need to improve and
develop them for the next time. Its interesting to notice that in this day, the weather was rainy.
There for the teacher take students outside under the rain. I think it was a great strategy to let
children explore the environment and take risk in their life. Moreover, the administration let
children and teacher leave the school because of the weather condition. At the end of the day, I felt
proud of myself and success students when I received positive feedbacks.
Week Four Journals
On Sunday 21st of April 2016, I went to my teaching practice school after the break. I start my
day with attending the morning assembly. Then I joined the classroom. The teacher merge the Kg
1 a with Kg1 b. The teacher start the day with the morning song and greet students. The teacher
asked students about the break and how they enjoy it. All student were participating with the
teacher to talk about their experiences. The teacher do not teach them. She just let them draw what
they do at the break. They talked about their drawing. Then the teacher let students to g outside
the hall to do some performance and dance. I participated with them. I was very exciting and fun.
For the science class, the teacher taught them the concepts of push and pull. She did many games
to involve children to the lesson. I liked the strategy of using the environment to teach children.
For example, she used the door to let children investigate the two concerts. She let each two
students to hold their hands to pull and push. In the math class the teacher make review for the
numbers from 1 to 10. At the end of the day I felt that students need to talk and express their feeling
as well as using the things around them to explore the environment.
On Monday, 11th of April 2016, as usually I attend the school at 7:45 am. In this day the teacher
did a lot of reviews for the class. The class was combating two class of KG 1. The first class the
teacher review the alphabetical letters with playing game. The students were exiting and
participated get to win and having a star. Also, she made a review about writing some numbers by
giving worksheet. I involved with her to make this review for small group. She also assessed
children in writing and practicing letters after making quick review. At the reset of the day the
students were playing. It interesting to notice that in this day, I had a meeting with my MST to talk
about the students behavior and the curriculum. At the end of the day I felt that all day was about
reviewing
and
playing
without
having
new
lesson.
On Tuesday 12th of April 2016, it was a normal day at school. In this day, there was no English,
science and math classes for the student from 8:00 am to 11:00 am. In this day with my friend
Meera, we practice with our students the performance art. At 11:00 am, the teacher taught the
student the number 16. She used many strategies to support student's learning. She taught them the
concrete and abstract concepts of the number. I used other time at the school by doing my TP work.
At the end of the day, I felt happy and relax because I was free for the long time.
On Wednesday 13th of April 2016, I attended Alwahda School as my teaching practice school. In
this day the teacher taught the students about push and pull. She let children to play many games.
I'm this day I taught math lesson about number 16 and 17. I did many activities. The students were
participated with me. I loused the classroom management, so I quickly managed that by saying I
will remove the stars from the wall". They listened to me and I completed the lesson successfully.
At the end of the day I felt happy because I successfully achieved my lesson.
Week Five Journals
On Sunday 17th of April 2016, as usual I attended the school at 7:45 am. In this day the teacher
faced a problem which is 3 of her students were crying and they did not want to stay at school.
Therefore, I suggested to let them play outside at playground. She let all students went outside.
She also, engaged them to go to the school caf to show them the food that they service it for
students. She let them set in the caf. She taught them the lesson there. She introduce the lesson
about the healthy body by singing son for them. When students where calm down she moved them
to the classroom and she read for them a story about healthy kids I participate with her to read
the half of the story. Then I take permeation from my MST to practice with children the
performance art. She taught children about number 18. She did many activities to involve them.
At the end of the day, I felt that the teacher must change her lesson plan for an emergency to
engage children to school.
On Monday 18th of April 2016, the teacher engaged children to review the number 18 and taught
them the number 19. She start to teach them counting in concrete concept then she start with
abstract to recognize the number. I involve to help children write the number and do the activity
in the book. She made a review of all letters and she taught then the letter q. She make many
games to involve children to the lesson. In this day we did with my students the performance art
assessment. The students were very good and they perform well. At the rest of the day the teacher
let students play without doing anything.
On Tuesday 19th of April 2016, it was the last day in the school. In this day the teacher gave
students the letter u. She let students go outside to hold their umbrella as the word that start with
u. She let children do the activity in the book. So she gave me the half of the class to do that
with them. In this day I farewell my students. Some of them cry because I will go. They made me
cry. Also, I farewell the teachers. At the end of the day, I felt sad because I leaved the school.
Really I was enjoyed and happy at this school. it was great school that I like it.
