Preschool Lesson Plan: The Five Senses

The document outlines a lesson plan for a BYU-Idaho preschool class focused on the 5 senses. It includes goals for individual students, pre-assessments of students' knowledge of the senses, planned self-selected and outdoor activities to develop senses through art, music, science and more, and a gathering time discussion of the senses. The lesson aims to help students practice social, motor, language and cognitive skills through multi-sensory exploration and play.

From the pre-assessment I learned that for the most part, the children
understood things that they could do with their nose, eyes, ears, mouth, and
hands - but they mainly gave me specific answers about what they could do
with them instead of addressing their senses. From this I decided that the
areas I want to work with them on were tasting and smelling.
Ideas to be Emphasized:
1. We have five senses: smelling, seeing, hearing, tasting, and touching.
2. We use our nose to smell.
3. We use our mouths to taste.
Preschool Concepts or Skills:
1. Body parts
2. Wh- questions
3. Colors

Rhyming Basket I will place objects in a basket/container and let

different pictures and if their picture starts with the
sound that the monster eats, they can put their
picture in his mouth.
I will have big colored letters taped on the felt
board. I will have the children turn around and I will
hide a picture of a nose or a mouth behind one one
of the letters. Then the children will turn around
and take turns (I will do this when there are 3-4
children left) guessing which letter it is behind.
