Terry Fox: The Power of Positive Attitude

Terry Fox was a determined athlete and sportsman from childhood who was awarded athlete of the year in 12th grade. However, in 1977 he was diagnosed with bone cancer and had his right leg amputated. Undaunted, he trained to use a prosthetic leg and in 1979 ran a marathon, finishing despite being 10 minutes behind the last runner. In 1980 he began the Marathon of Hope to raise money for cancer research, running across Canada until the cancer spread in April. His positive attitude and fundraising efforts raised $24.17 million, inspiring many with his courage and determination in the face of adversity.
