First Grade News

January 3-7, 2011

What we’re learning


Welcome to 2011! Hope you had an excellent Christmas.!
Our Bible stories for this week are “Jesus Appears in Glory” and
“Jesus Comforts His Disciples.”
We will be reading “Trucks” and “Communities” in our basal reading books. Our phonics
focus this week is the short “u” sound , c /s/ and g /j/. Math will include writing
numbers 1-10 with words, identifying pairs, and measuring length. For language we are
identifying proper nouns and titles. In P.E. we are working starting a jump rope unit.

Assignments
Here are some ways to challenge your child:
Math– Whenever your child uses a number in regular conversation have him/her spell it
out using letters.
Reading– Classify books at home as fiction, non-fiction, fantasy etc. and explain why.
Science– Point out ways animals need plants and visa-versa.

Monday Jan. 3: Read Christ Light “Jesus Appears in Glory”

Tuesday Jan. 4: Memory Treasure: I John 1:7
Read “Trucks”
Wednesday Jan. 5: Read Christ Light ”Jesus Comforts His Disciples”
Math Facts
Thursday Jan. 6: Spelling Test (cut, bus, hug, tug, city, our, bring, gym)
