C-FB ISD Announces National Merit Semifinalists

1) Six students from Creekview High School and two students from Ranchview High School in Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD have been named National Merit Scholarship semifinalists for 2013. 2) The superintendent congratulated the students and said their hard work and the work of school staff have paid off. 3) The students will now compete for 8,300 merit scholarship awards worth $32 million that will be offered in the spring by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

C-FB ISD National Merit Semifinalists Announced


(Carrollton, TX) Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD is proud to announce the semifinalists in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship program. Creekview High School Daniel Chin Sunena Dahlvani Jeremy Dowell Samantha Guu Thang Nguyen Melanie Purdy Dr. Bobby Burns, Superintendent of Schools, said, "Wow! These students represent the saying effort produces achievement. Their hard work paired with the hard work of our staff has reaped great rewards for these students. To the students I say, Your community is proud of you. The students are among 16,000 high school seniors who will continue in the National Merit Scholarship Corporation's competition for 8,300 merit scholarship awards worth $32 million that will be offered in the spring, according to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation press release. Students are selected based on performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. National Merit Scholarship Corporation reports that the pool of semifinalists represents less than one percent of the top high school seniors in the nation. Approximately 15,000 semifinalists become finalists. From the group of finalists, Merit Scholarship winners are determined according to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
