Q&A with Tom Felton After last semester the editorial team of Simile got together to discuss what
we would like to do for the next issue. Considering that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part II was just about to be released, a Harry Potter Special seemed like a great idea. So we set out to get an interview with one of the actors. This proved impossible at the time of the premiere, no surprise there, and we sort of forgot about it. But then we heard that Mr. Tom Felton was coming to F.A.C.T.S., getting an interview with him proved impossible, but this did not deter us from our quest to ask the actor who portrays Draco Malfoy in the world famous Harry Potter movie franchise at least one question. And so we went to F.A.C.T.S., where at four fifteen in the afternoon Tom Felton joined us in a room packed with Potterheads and crushing teenage girls* for a thirty minute Q&A. *who gave him a very nice poem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84v9M4yy9EM&feature=related (7:55 min.) Heres a selection of some of the most interesting and funny questions. For more of the Q&A: look up Tom Felton F.A.C.T.S on youtube. What is your favourite character in Harry Potter aside from Draco Malfoy? Favourite character [] I liked Gilderoy Lockheart from the second film. Im a big fan of his. Professor Umbridge and Mad-Eye Moody, he was pretty cool, but one of my favourites is Slughorn. I thought that Jim Brobend [] did such marvelous job, hes very funny. In Harry Potter and also The Rise of the Planet of the Apes, you obviously play villains Do you mind playing the villain, or would you for the sake of variation like to play the hero at some point? (Kate asked this Question!) I like the play the villain, I like to play characters who are as opposite of me as possible. Obviously Dungee, my character in Planet of the Apes, hates animals and I love them. What was the funniest thing that happened during the filming of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows? Lots of funny things, Rupert has problem with laughing. Once he starts to laugh, he cant stop; and every time they say Quiet, quiet, quiet, and rolling and action he just bursts out laughing again, which makes it impossible to try and film. Especially when Im trying to be horrible to him, he is acting endearing it is so funny. The other thing is, you know Allan Rickman who plays Snape, he wears a long black cloak. I stepped on his cloak - once, it was attached to his neck, and like ripped his neck to the back. He didnt find it funny at the time; hes quite a serious guy when you dont know him. He took it in good humor though, so that was pretty funny. What would you do if you werent an actor? Im not sure, Id like to think something creative. Im not very good with offices and numbers, thats not really me. Id like to think Id be writing, whether thats scripts or stories or songs. Something creative I hope. Hed be something in the film industry, hed like to be a camera man, that would be cool. What would Draco Malfoys boggart be? His dad I imagine, or Voldemort. Or Hermoine even, hes pretty scared of her as well.
If you were stranded on an island, and you could take one item, what would it be? Thats a tricky one. My dog? Does my dog count as an item? I think a boat, I think thats a pretty good one. Like a massive boat. [] Maybe a Harry Potter book? Its not much good is it? You cant eat that. [] Otherwise Id bring my girlfriend, but shes not really an item. I mean were an item, but she isnt. Also here are some random facts and quotes: Chocolate. In response to the question What is your favourite ice-cream flavor? I used to work at a fishery, and that wasnt great. A wand? I dont want to burst your bubble babe, but they dont do as much as in films. Its like an invisibility cloak, its ok in the films, but not as much in real life. His dogs name is Timber. He saved a puppy once. He had a boy crush on Helena Bonnham-Carter. His dog has a habit of ripping apart the dogbeds he buys. I think Lauren Lopez did a better job at Draco in the Very Potter Musical than I did in the films.
