EXT. OUTSIDE OF KARAS-OK BAR & GRILL - DAY We open to a shot of the restaurant. Its located downtown. The place has its own parking lot, though it doesnt fit many cars. We see two guys standing outside the place, they are random customers in their mid 40s. The two are smoking cigarettes like its nobodys business. A car is stationed outside. This car belongs to Drew; he is one of the workers at Karas OK. Drew gets out and heads inside the restaurants. Drew is a very egotistical and he believes hes the most quintessential worker at Karas. He thinks he can play a mean game, but thats all a lie. We see him enter from a distance. The TV shows title appears: Check, Please. We then zoom in to the two customers smoking their cigarettes. Drew has walked past the customers. Thats when they begin conversing. CUSTOMER #1 The people Kara hires every time look like a bunch of douche bags if you ask me. CUSTOMER #2 Yeah man. Ill tell you the only decent worker is that bartender fellow. Now he knows his stuff. I mean have you had his Appletinis ? The other customer is taking his last drag of the cigarette. He throws it to the ground and puts it out. CUSTOMER #1 No, because I actually want to talk to girls, but youre right about everything else. Well, Ill meet you inside. I need to let lizard leak if you catch my drift. CUSTOMER #2 I get it man. You dont have to tell me everything you do. Customer #1 walks into the restaurant. As he steps a foot forward, we see him feel a slight breeze in the air. It was 80 degrees outside. He walks past the bar. Thats where

2. Lou is, the bartender. Hes a smart and rational guy, but sometimes he acts clownish. Also hes easily scared. Karas OK is the name of the place. Inside we have around 1020 tables; most are for 4 people. Some are for a party of 2. The bar doesnt stretch long. It can probably fit 10 people. All the way in the back of the restaurant is the stage. Its a small platform. Nothing too fancy. Theres a wired microphone hooked up to the speakers in the back. Right now only one table is being used by a party of 4. There are 2 people at the bar. Lou is cleaning up some spilled water at the bar as Drew walks by. Sup Lou. Sup. DREW LOU DISSOLVE TO: INT. THE KITCHEN The kitchen is small. We have two grill plates on the stove. 3 baskets on top of the medium sized fryer. The cooks are standing there talking as the steaks are being grilled. Drew walks to the back towards the time clock. There we see Gabriel. Gabriel is nonchalant. He is also quite friendly, but can sometimes snap and get easily pissed. Drew grabs his ticket and punches in. Gabriel is stretching. Today is a big day for them. DREW Did Kara tell you about today man? GABRIEL All I heard was that a food critic is coming in today. I dont know if thats what youre referring to? DREW Yeah that. And also Kara will be announcing who will become the new manager up this shiz. GABRIEL Okay. But can you stop saying that?

3. DREW Saying what? Shiz? GABRIEL Yeah. Eventually youll use it to the point where you might accidentally pronounce it jizz when referring to something obscure making you look gay. DREW Eh, whatever. Gabriel heads back to the front of the restaurant. Amanda walks in and heads to the back. She confronts Drew. Amanda is the most rational one on the job. Shes the odd one out amongst the others because she takes this job seriously. Since a new managerial position opened up, shes become somewhat of a bitch. AMANDA Hey Drew. We need to talk. DREW What about? AMANDA Your Boy Gabriel. Tell him to back off. The position is going to be mine. I have a feeling hes trying to take this away from me. DREW Nah. That isnt like Gabriel. Hes more carefree. Plus why would he want the position? I know for a fact that guy doesnt want to be working long hours. Unlike you, he has a life. AMANDA I dont buy it. DREW You can believe whatever you want. Im just telling you what I know. AMANDA Im still not going to buy that load of crap. Ill be watching you two.

4. DREW Yeah, whatever. Amanda becomes frustrated and storms off. She heads back to the front. Drew stays behind to talk to some of the cooks. NOTE TO FUTURE STAFF WRITERS: AMANDA AND GABRIEL ARE THE MAIN CHARACTERS IN THE SHOW. WE WILL EITHER FOLLOW BOTH OR ONE OF THEM IN EACH EPISODE. INT. FRONT OF KARAS-OK - DAY Gabriel is seen in the far right. Hes talking to his table of four. Amanda has just walked in. She then takes a seat by Lou. AMANDA Hey Lou, give me a drink. LOU Whoa Amanda, you aint supposed to be drinking on the job. AMANDA (Angrily) I know. Drink doesnt usually mean alcohol. I just want a water. LOU (backing off) Damn all right. Dont get your panties up in a bunch. Whats wrong though? AMANDA Its just this week man. Its what, almost the end of the week? Ive been trying to work my ass off and get Karas attention, but my gut says shes eyeing Gabe. LOU I thought you said you had it in the bag. Why so pessimistic all of a sudden? AMANDA I did. Then came Gabe who is basically getting on everyones good side. Plus he gets bigger tips. It may be my jealousy taking over.

5. LOU Or your narcissism. But still dont fret. I mean yeah Gabe is chill and shit, but thats just his nature. Dont take it so personally. AMANDA I just want him out of the picture. Ill probably try something to get him fired or something. Why? LOU

AMANDA I already gave you reasons why. Also he gets a standing ovation when we do drunk karaoke after work. LOU Who actually fucking cares about that? AMANDA I do! Its about the principles. LOU What principles? You just get drunk and try to sing your heart out but all I hear is a Siren who got their nodes fucked up. AMANDA I dont sound like that do I? LOU If you really want to know... AMANDA Actually no I dont. I rather -lets just forget about it. I have stuff to do. Like? LOU

AMANDA I have to um. Amanda looks around for something to do.

6. AMANDA (CONTD) There. I have to attend to customers. Amanda finishes her water and wipes the excess off her lips. She gets up from her seat and goes to attend a couple that just walked in. AMANDA (CONTD) Welcome to Karas OK where youre always allowed to Karaoke. Are you a party of 2? MAN Yes we are. AMANDA All right, follow me this way. Amanda takes some menus and has them follow her to a table that is couple row backs. Gabriel walks past them and heads towards the kitchen to put in a ticket. He rings the bell. Order up. GABRIEL

Drew finally comes out of the kitchen. He looks prepared for work, but he really isnt. As stated earlier, hes not the brightest. Drew walks over to the bar area since the place isnt quite as packed yet. He grabs a soda and begins to drink it. Lou is seen cleaning some glasses for tonight. Its Friday, one of their late nights and one of two busy days. Karas-OK isnt that packed yet. Gabriel and Amanda are taking care of the customers that are there at the moment. Whats more puzzling at the moment is that not every worker is here. Only four of them are. Though not everyone is usually stationed on a Friday, today was the exception. DREW Hey Lou, wheres Annie or Brian? LOU Brians out sick, I think. Annie is in Karas office. INT. KARAS OFFICE Karas office is not that big. Imagine it being as big as the managers office inside the Moobys (Clerks II).

7. Inside the office we see Kara and Annie sitting opposite each other. The office is just mainly a cabinet in the back and a desk with a computer on top of it. There isnt much lighting. Theres only one lamp on the desk. Karas the owner of Karas-OK. Kara is one of those owners that have eye on everything, though she can be nice to the workers. Kara is in her late 20s. Around 28 or 29. Annie is a perky 21 year old college student. She works part time. Shes been at Karas for a year now and she is the hottest employee there. Annie is also one of the clumsiest employees they have. Annie is clueless to why shes inside the office. ANNIE Why did you call me in here for Kara? Did I do something wrong? KARA No, you didnt do anything wrong. Listen, today Caroline Schumacher is coming to review the restaurant and I dont want you to mess up anything. Just be alert today please. ANNIE Cmon Kara. You know I dont really goof around or mess up anything. Youve known me for a year now. KARA (Under her breath) Regrettably. Huh? ANNIE

KARA Nothing. Just be more alert because Caroline is overcritical. It could be things like having coasters to balance a table to our attire. She needs to wowed but not too wowed. So dont think about doing any Karaoke. Gotcha! ANNIE

8. KARA One last thing. Please, and I really mean this, please no more sex on the job. I know how young women can be around your age, so just dont think pulling that shit tonight or any time after tonight. ANNIE What? I dont have sex on the job? KARA Really? Here watch this. Kara turns her computer so that it faces Annie. ANNIE (O.S.) Oh yeah. Fuck me like Im your little whore. DISSOLVE TO: INT. THE BACK ROOM. NIGHT. VIDEO Its the back room. Weve seen it before in the beginning so no description needed. We see Annie in doggystyle position. She is being fucked by a patron; its someone from her college. ANNIE (Moaning) Yes. Yes. COLLEGE STUDENT Dammit Annie! Im getting tired already. Can we please change position? ANNIE Fuck. All right. They switch positions. Annie is now on top. Happy now? ANNIE (CONTD)

COLLEGE STUDENT Yeah. Yeah. They continue to fuck. Some papers are seen on the table now. It was covered by them before. Annie puts her hands on the table and accidentally knocks them over. They were some of Karas papers.

9. ANNIE BACK TO: INT. KARAS OFFICE KARA That morning I had to pick up those papers and some were wet. ANNIE Im sorry? Listen, Ill change. I got this! KARA You better. Annie you know Im not afraid of firing anyone. ANNIE Ill keep that in mind. Annie gets up and walks out. Kara is left in her office. Shes thinking about how things will turn out. But that doesnt last long. You can tell by seeing her stressing. She has her hands on her hair and pushes back. Shit like that. She then grabs her clipboard. On the top it reads Possible future Managers. On the top of the list is Gabriel. Gabriel has only been working there for 3 months, but he is the one whos on task and can interact easily with others. KARA (Under her breath) All right, Gabe has only been here for 3 months and Im liking his style of approach. He seems like hes liking it here. Hes always on time and friendly to the customers. I dont think Ive had one complaint about him... Under his name is Amandas. Amanda has been stepping up her game and sucking up to Kara way too much. This is why Kara has been thinking about her as a possible manager. KARA (CONTD) (under her breath) Amanda is also a very good worker. Not only has she been arriving here on time, but shes always happy to stay a bit after her shift to help with any clean up. (MORE)

10. KARA (CONTD) Shes quite the worker. But her attitude might be a problem. I need someone who can be a leader but I cant have someone who will end up scrutinizing my staff a lot. I need them to stay, not leave. But I know that will keep them focused and have them work harder. Theres a knock on the door. Kara looks up from her clipboard. She responds. Come in. KARA (CONTD)

AMANDA Hey Kara, just came in to let you know that youre a great boss. Thanks for hiring me. KARA Yeah. No problem? AMANDA All right. See ya. Amanda closes the door. We now switch over to the other side of the door. INT. THE KITCHEN The two chefs are there. Ones white and the other is a Hispanic. The Hispanic speaks perfect English FYI. Amanda is walking towards the door that leads to the front. Amanda is rubbing her hands in a devilish way, like shes scheming something. Amanda pushes through the swinging doors and sees that Gabriel and Lou are standing next to each other. By the bar is a hole with a small grey aluminum surface. Thats where the food is placed when its ready. Amanda heads to her table to see if they need anything. Gabriel is standing by Lou waiting for his order. Lou is serving up a beer for a customer, who is also sitting there with a plate of chicken wings. LOU Hey man, what you think of Amanda?

11. GABRIEL I dont really think of anyone man. I mean yeah shes hot, but that isnt me. Im honestly trying to do my job and get paid. LOU Yeah man, I hear you. Amanda has a fine ass though. GABRIEL I hear you. So you prepped for our rush tonight? LOU Am I ever ready? Ha. But in all seriousness, Im not as worried about that as I am for that critic coming in. I hear shes an overcritical bitch. GABRIEL So is she a nicer version of Kara? Ha. I kid. LOU (chuckling) Good one man. Lou has been distracted by the conversation that he forgot about how much beer he has poured in the glass. Only about half-way. Crisis averted. GABRIEL Shouldnt you be giving out that beer? LOU Damn I forgot. Here you go sir. Im sorry for keeping you waiting. GABRIEL Its only half full. I dont think hes getting the full service. Oh. LOU

Lou turns and notices that Gabe was right. He served the man half a glass. The whole time the man has stopped eating and looked at Lou with the eye. The man looks like he is in his 50s.

12. LOU (CONTD) Oops. Sorry sir. Let me fill that up to the top for you. Lou grabs the glass and puts it under the tab. He pulls down the lever to fill it up with Guinness. He wipes off some of the foam and continues so he can return it to the customer. GABRIEL So Lou, do you know anything else about this critic that would make me worried? LOU Despite the fact that she is the exact definition of a bitch? Well I can say is that the -(coughs) CHEFS BETTER MAKE HER FOOD CAREFULLY. I DONT WANT NASTY ASS HAIR ON IT OR ANYTHING. GABRIEL Wow. You sound just like Kara. LOU Actually she told me to tell them that since she is swamped. GABRIEL Oh really with what? LOU That whole who will be the next manager thing. Honestly I have a feeling it might be you. GABRIEL Whys that? LOU Cause you dont suck up. GABRIEL Yeah. I mean why would I suck up? To be honest I dont want to be stuck here longer then what I originally planned? LOU True. Between you and me man. Im trying to tap that ass.

13. GABRIEL Really? Good luck with that man. LOU Do I ever need luck? GABRIEL Not really. You are the bartender. You just get them drunk and say a cheesy line. From there hook line and sinker. LOU Yeah -- Hey! Not funny. GABRIEL You know I kid man... Damn wheres that food? LOU How long have you been waiting? GABRIEL I dont know. Is time ever a factor? See Im only here talking to you because my customers are still eating their appetizers. Im waiting for them to finish. Then entrees and once their done dessert or Cha-Ching. Money is money. LOU Oh I feel you. It sucks that waiters make shit money. GABRIEL Yeah. 2.50 plus tip my ass. CUT TO: EXT. OUTSIDE OF KARAS-OK BAR & GRILL - LATE AFTERNOON We see two guys in their mid 20s smoking cigarettes. They are different people from the opening. These guys are dressed in casual attire. We turn around and see a woman walking over. Its Caroline Schumacher. Shes walking slowly towards the door. She likes to take her time. Caroline talks in a bitchy tone but she means well. Well most of the time.

14. The guys stand there not caring so they continue their conversations. CUSTOMER #3 Hey man so I was with this girl last night. Shes the one who lives off Harriet street, you know? CUSTOMER #4 Oh you mean the one whos usually having sex with anyone who buys her a drink. Yea I know her. Im hoping you used a jimmy, cause you dont want no baby man. CUSTOMER #3 True, but I have a feeling I destroyed that -Caroline stops in her tracks. She turns to Customer #3. CAROLINE Do you talk to your mother with that mouth? Ugh no. CUSTOMER #3

CAROLINE Well if you dont, then dont speak like that near or in a family establishment. You can ruin this places status. My bad? CUSTOMER #3

CAROLINE Now if youll excuse me, Ill be on my way. Caroline walks into the restaurant. Customer #4 looks at Customer #3 and shrugs. CUSTOMER #3 Dude what a bitch! CUSTOMER #4 I know. The waiters inside are going to have a hard time. CUSTOMER #3 Poor bastards.

15. INT. FRONT OF KARAS-OK Caroline has just walked in and all the random chatter amongst the waiters suddenly stops. It becomes utterly quiet. Caroline looks around. She then stands there waiting for someone to attend to her. CAROLINE (Clears her throat) Good evening. The only person who isnt busy at this time is Annie. She goes over to Caroline like as if she was any other customer. ANNIE Welcome to Karas-OK where its always OK to Karaoke. Hmm. CAROLINE

ANNIE Follow me this way. Caroline follows Annie to a table. She takes her to the right; the table is the third one from the back. Annie then proceeds to hand her a menu. She takes out her check book. ANNIE (CONTD) Can I get you something to drink while you look at the menu. CAROLINE Yes, Ill have a water, but dont load it with ice and garnish it with a lemon wedge. ANNIE Right away. Annie leaves to the bar. Lou is silent and lost in thought, unclear about whether or not she will criticize him, but he then snaps back into reality when Annie shows up. ANNIE (CONTD) Hey Lou, let me get a water please. LOU Yea, ugh, no problem. Lou fills the cup with water.

16. AMANDA

Annie.

Annie turns and knocks over the cup. It was almost full and now the bar table is covered in liquid leaving some of the bar patrons clothes wet. Yeah? ANNIE

AMANDA Im gonna go get Kara. Keep Caroline busy. ANNIE Got it! (To Lou) Wheres that water Lou? LOU (Angrily) Coming... Up. (quietly) Bitch. Annie takes the water back to the table. INT. KARAS OFFICE Kara is in her office. She was looking at her clipboard but has just begun to doze off. Amanda then barges in to tell Kara that Caroline has just came in. AMANDA Kara, Caroline is here! We are gong about it smoothly, but I feel we need a pep talk. I know that Im not ready. KARA Huh? Shes here already? Pep Talk? Whatever. Just call everyone to the back. Got it. AMANDA

Amanda slams the door. Kara then jumps in her seat, startled. CUT TO:

17. INT. THE KITCHEN

All the employees are in the kitchen. They are crowded around Kara. KARA All right guys this is an important day. Caroline Schumacher is one of the harshest critics Ive ever read in a magazine. So everyone just be cool... I want Gabriel and Amanda to take care of Caroline. Also Annie, I want you to take over of Amandas tables and Drew you take care of Gabriels... Has anyone seen Brian? DREW Hes out sick. I forgot to tell you. My bad. KARA (Act Franticly) Fuck. I dont have time for this shit. We have other things to take care of. Ready everyone? Lets go. Kara heads to the front; then Lou. This continues until Drew is left back there with Annie. DREW Are you ready to be the lackeys in this scenario. ANNIE Yea. I was called into her office earlier. I thought I would have had the honor. DREW You think Kara trusts us that much? Ill be damned if she trusts me at all. I mean I could always give her the ol Drew charm. ANNIE Oh I know, cause I dont trust you... And what Drew charm? Youre the guy wholl end up drugging a random drunk chick for sex.

18. DREW Whoa. I would never go that far... Plus Ive gotten laid before. You know Im the shizz. ANNIE Yea, keep telling yourself that. Lets get out there before Kara has our head on a platter. CUT TO: INT. FRONT OF KARAS-OK Gabriel and Amanda are at Carolines table attending to her every order. In the background we see Kara and Lou talking, while Lou attends to some bar patrons. But we focus on Gabriel and Amanda for now. AMANDA Evening Ms. Schumacher. I hope youre enjoying the place. Are you ready to order or do you need a few to take another look? GABRIEL If you want we can give you some recommendations. The wings and our mushroom poppers are our most popular appetizers. CAROLINE I never heard of these mushroom poppers. Whats in them? AMANDA Its a stuffed mushroom like any other restaurant would have, but we bread it and fry to a crisp. It comes with our secret sauce. CAROLINE Ill take that for now. GABRIEL All right. Ill go put that in. Gabriel leaves. Amanda is left with Caroline. CAROLINE So tell me Amanda. Whats the point of your restaurant? (MORE)

19. CAROLINE (CONT'D) I see this odd design and yet I dont see it fitting towards what you are trying to give the customers. AMANDA Well we have the bar there that isnt open till the late afternoon. And we are also a family establishment. Think of it as a Fridays or a Chilis except with Karaoke. We have all American food with some of our own concoctions. CAROLINE Hmm. Do people pay extra for the karaoke or do you allow any random person come in and sing without pay. AMANDA For the most part its free. I dont know the exact policy towards our Karaoke machine. Though we sometimes sing to entertain the customers. CAROLINE I see. Well, Im fine for now. Im going to take a look at the menu. Ill call you over when Im done. Caroline reaches for her bag. She starts looking around for a pad and pen. She takes them out and begins to write some notes. We see Amandas face and we can sense some nervousness in her. AMANDA Well, Im going to go check on the appetizer. Ill be right back. Amanda leaves and Caroline continues to write in her note pad. CUT TO: INT. THE KITCHEN. EVENING. Amanda walks in a bit nervous. She is a shit show. Also the chefs look nervous because they have never worked this seriously before. They have always had fun cooking, but now its hard for them to concentrate.

20. Amanda walks up to Gabriel. Gabriel is being nonchalant. AMANDA Gabriel, how can you be so calm about this? GABRIEL I dont know. I act like shes any ordinary customer. Yeah she has a bitchy tone, but I get through it. AMANDA Hmm. Yeah, no. I cant handle it. Shes like a fucking menace who can destroy us through words. GABRIEL Listen, just calm down. AMANDA All right. (To the Chefs) Hey hurry up with that appetizer! CHEF #1 (Hispanic Accent) Right away. Were just finishing up the plate. All right. AMANDA

GABRIEL Relax Amanda. AMANDA Ill try my best. (Takes a breath) Lets do this. GABRIEL Amanda hol up. Listen Ill be right back. I have something planned. Just take her order. AMANDA (Breathing heavily) All right. Gabriel heads back to the front of the restaurant. Amanda heads over to the chefs and grabs the plate. She then heads over to the front. DISSOLVE TO:

21. INT. FRONT OF KARAS-OK Amanda walks over to Carolines table with the food. She is a bit shaky and nervous. In the background we see Drew and Annie working. They seem displeased with this. AMANDA Here you are Caroline, enjoy. CAROLINE Amanda is it? Yes. AMANDA

CAROLINE Im ready to order. AMANDA Okay. What can I get ya? CAROLINE Ill take the Black and Blue New York Strip, the 10 oz. I would like cooked medium and make sure its pink inside. Other places have gypped me before. AMANDA Okay. Oh and that comes with a side. What would you like? CAROLINE What do you recommend? AMANDA The garlic mash potatoes is very good. Ive had it and its mindblowing. CAROLINE Hmm. Yeah, Im not a fan of potatoes so I guess Ill have the steam veggies instead. AMANDA Okay. Ill take that menu off your hands and Ill put in your order right away. Amanda leaves.

22. As she leaves the camera will follow. In the back we see Caroline eating and writing at the same time. Amanda passes the ticket through the hole and the chefs grab it. Kara and Lou are at the bar. Lou is working and Kara is just sitting there observing. LOU You see Gabe? AMANDA He told me hed be back. He said about a plan. I dont know -KARA (Nervously) Ill be back. Kara heads over to Caroline. AMANDA Hey Lou this could be my ticket to getting him fired and I can get that managerial position. LOU I think thats a bit messed up. I mean its just a higher rank. Will it make you feel special or something? Youre basically gonna be proud of a 2 dollar pay raise and a change of clothes. Ugh, yea. AMANDA

LOU Damn girl, you must be desperate. We now head over to Kara who is with Caroline. She is making small talk. KARA Im hoping youre enjoying the food. CAROLINE I am. I assume you are the owner of this establishment. KARA Yes I am. Im Kara nice to meet you.

23. CAROLINE The pleasure is mine. I like the layout a lot, though it is quite odd. KARA Why, thank you. CAROLINE Youre waiters are also very kind. Though I havent seen much of the guy. Isnt he attending to me too? KARA Yea they are. He isnt? Where could he be? Whatever. As long as you are enjoying the food. Well I have some business to attend to, but if you need anything dont be afraid to holler. CAROLINE All right -- Oh and can you tell the chefs to hurry up. Im famished. KARA No problem. Kara leaves. WE HAVE A PANNING SHOT OF KARA WALKING. AS SHE WALKS WE ZOOM OUT. KARA (CONTD) (To Amanda and Lou) Have you guys seen Gabe?... You know what? Just forget about it. Kara leaves for her office. INT. FRONT OF KARAS-OK Drew is serving one of his two tables. Its an old gay couple. OLD CUSTOMER Excuse me sir, what does the firecracker steak comes with?

24. DREW Its steak grilled to your demand with some spices and shiz. OLD CUSTOMER Huh? Jizz? It has jizz. No I cant have that. Its too salty. Ugh. Okay. DREW

OLD CUSTOMER Just give me a few more minutes. Okay. DREW

INT. GABRIELS CAR. EVENING. Gabes car is a total mess. Trash everywhere. You can see some empty bottles in the back with some clothes. Gabes changing his clothes. He has something in mind to woo Caroline. We see Gabe struggling while he tries to put on his white Tshirt. He puts on jeans and cowboy boots. He puts on a flannel over, but one that looks southern. He then leaves the car. Gabe closes the door behind him and walks towards the entrance. CUT TO: INT. FRONT OF KARAS-OK Gabe makes an entrance. Amanda is walking towards Caroline with her meal. Shes focused on the customer while Gabriel is focused on giving her a great time. Amanda is at the table. AMANDA Heres your meal. Are you done with those plates? Yes. CAROLINE

Gabe walks past the bar. Lou begins to chuckle while Drew and Annie are staring at Gabe.

25. They lose focus on their job and Drew accidentally spills some water on a customer. Hes one of those angry black guys. DREW Oh shit. My bad. Let me go get a rag to clean that off.
