First Article Inspection Guidelines

A supplier must submit a First Article Inspection (FAI) report in the following situations: 1) The first time a part is provided to the customer. 2) When a design change occurs. 3) When there is a change in manufacturing source, process, inspection method, location, tooling, or materials. 4) If the part has not been provided to the customer in over 2 years. The FAI must use production tooling and methods and include all design specifications. A material and process certificate must also be included. The FAI report must be submitted with the parts it represents and all characteristics must meet the design requirements unless approved otherwise by the customer.
