The Basics
! Interior design.
! Improving Office space.
! Re-Designing Furniture.
! Improving the workplace.
! Interior Dcor

Summary of the brief
The category I have chosen to focus on is Spatial Solutions,
which includes primary spatial in nature, including architecture,
interior design, landscape or environmental design and
furniture. The project is about improving a piece of furniture or
the workspace environment to better the way we feel and
make the workplace more enjoyable. Key elements that would
be included would be furniture design, surface pattern and
architecture.

My project is based mainly on the ergonomics of the desk
space and dcor space supporting the environment. This will
be supported with the survey answers I gathered from to
create a 3Dimential Office space render.
Campus London/Google Shoreditch
I discovered that Google have an open office space in
Shoreditch named Campus London. Having access to the area
already as Google let there partners use this space. I decided I
would use it to my advantage and get my survey answers by a
numerous amount of people. Having also had a brief look at
the open area but it was rather busy. Google run workshops
here, they rent out office space and also have a free for
members to use area which I believe is a free membership.

Having visited this area in person, I found that this was very
useful to relate to my design brief.

This category will encompass all solutions
that are primarily spatial in nature, including
architectural, interior design, landscape or en-
vironmental design and furniture proposals.
Looking through the brief, i discovered that i
was most interested in approaching the idea
of a future-proofed product or furniture de-
sign solution that anticipates and responds
to people's needs in the workplace envi-
ronment. As the idea of this brief is mod-
ernising the way we use our workplace at
work. ldeally l would like to focus on a part
of the workplace that relates to masses so it
can involve each individual job occupation.

- Modernized furniture.
- Sustainable area
- More Visual's such as art work
- Surface pattern design (wallpaper + furni-
ture)
- Rooftop garden, area for offce breaks.
- Technology to better the workplace.
l visited several different offce's and not-
ed down several points that i would imple-
ment into my own design ideas. l got to
have a look at the architect's plans for an
modernised NHS Medical Practice, but un-
fortunately i was not able to scan them or
use them in my research due to legal rea-
sons. Having seen the Older Offce space
and comparing this to new modernised
workspace i could see that the people work-
ing there were in alot more openoffce rath-
er than enclosed areas which benefts the
workplace to be more sociable and more
inviting. l feel alot of the points l've raised
could be implemented into the work envi-
ronment to improve it/make it more friendly.
Using these points i designed a survey to
gather a background in what people in the
workplace feel about theses improvements.

From my survey, a total of 43 people flled
it out and have answered the l0 Ques-
tions proposed to them. 36 out of 43 all
answered either yes or sometimes to being
at a desk in the workplace. When looking
at the other questions in relation to this l9
out the possible 36 have raised the issue of
not having enough space in the workplace
to feel comfortable. To relate to a mass the
consumer, l would have to focus on maybe
improving the desk or the space around
this in the workplace. Out of the possible
answers the majority of people felt that De-
cor in the workplace would make the place
more inviting and that technology would im-
prove the way we go about our workplace.

The google campus in
Shoreditch is open for
everyone at no cost.
This is offce space in
london that has several
foors and areas. Hav-
ing looked at hundreds
of images of Google's
offces, it looks like a
really enjoable envio-
roment to work in. An
example of this would
be such a small thing
like a phone box.

l found alot of this re-
search was based
around 'Google' as i felt
that they are a huge
step ahead in the way
the workplace is run/
designed. There is alot
of information on this to
as Google has several
offce's all around the

globe with the same ap-
proach to design. l de-
cided to check out the
one in shoreditch. Hav-
ing been to the open
offce area to see what
it was like, i felt it lacked
space and everyone
there was crammed
around the areas with
plug sockets and i could
only sit down on the
rows of tables without a
plug socket. The term
'Hot Desking' would be
used to describe the
situation there for public
use. Although i felt the
environment felt good
as the surrounding area
was modern decor and
the technology there
was current/not outdat-
ed.

When it comes to the
workplace... google
is where you want to
be working. Having
found multiple articles
showing off Google
Headquarters l60,000
square foot develop-
ment on their new offce
space that will be open
in 20l6. l really found
it interesting at the way
they approach the work
environment.
The Lala Library hosts a giant semi-circle white
sofa adorned with pillows, surrounded by arty and
inspirational books.

This uses mainly surface pattern to give the envi-
roment a confortable feel and inviting.Where the
wallpaper plays a big part in mood/feeling.
